CREATIVE EXPRESSION

Story Narration
Exercise 1 choose any five objects from your bag and develop a narrative We had to choose 5 objects from our bag, and create a story amongst them within a given period of time. I chose wallet, deodorant, rubber band, pen and a Hand sanitizer. When I had chosen the objects I started relating them with each other, it was a story in a house where wallet was the dining table, deodorant was the mother in the family, pen was a girl and the rubber band was a pet dog. I could relate the vertical objects deodorant and pen with human beings, wallet as it was rectangular in shape, I placed it horizontally with the deodorant and the rubber band which had a soft flower on it I could relate that to a dog. In the story the little girl was playing with her pet dog in her room, and her mother was waiting for her at the dining table for dinner, the mother called her a lot times but the girl was busy playing with the dog so she ignored it. After sometime the mother gets really angry and she shouts at her You wont get dinner tonight if you dont come this time. So the girl quickly uses the sanitizer and comes out for dinner.

Learning
We learnt how to relate a few objects with each other and everything around us, For the first time the stories were without a moral as it was all about imagining Beyond what is obvious. We were looking at the objects with a very different and creative point of view. We learnt how to complete a task within a given period of time. We learnt how to interact with everyone around us and to express our ideas and creativity. This was our first assignment of Design concepts and it really changed our perception for design and creativity. We could actually think beyond what id obvious after that. We could actually think beyond obvious and be creative; it really helped in all the other assignments in design as well as all the modules.

Art Work
Exercise 2 Create an art work in colors using your fingers as a tool of expression It was a group task and we had to create an art work, using only our fingers and poster colors, we were given ten minutes to decide and discuss amongst ourselves we decided to show the phase between school life and college. Then 30 minutes to do our assignment with talking to each other. We were five in the group and everybody started expressing their experience with different emotions happy, sad, depression, tension, mystery, confusion, trouble, love, heartbreak and so on. We named our artwork NIRVANA.

Learning
We learnt how to work within certain parameters, as we had to use only fingers and poster colors then we had to work without talking to each other. We learnt how to complete the task within a period of time. Then finally we learnt how to comment on others work give feedback

VISUAL REPRESENTATION

Personality Model
Exercise 3 Explain your Personality model in detail (constructed in Material class) visually represent the same in color on A3 we made a model describing our personality in material exploration, I made a 3d guitar using white cartridge sheet to show that Im a peaceful person, and I love music, and I used black and silver triangle pieces to depict fashion. We had to visualize the same in mind and make a 2D representation using poster colors.

Learning
We learnt how to visualize a 3d object and then make a 2D form of it. We learnt how to give a 3d effect using poster colors,

COMPOSITION DEVELOPMENT

Composition
Exercise 4 Develop a composition of 5objects of same color we were3 asked to get 20 objects of the same color to the class. The color I chose was pink. Then we selected 5 objects and created 3 compositions by changing the placement of objects in all. We gave a 3d effect to the objects.

Learning
We learnt how to create a composition, we learnt how to give 3d effect to the objects. We learnt how to change the placement of objects and to create a story amongst them. We learnt how to paint directly without drawing it with pencil. We developed a new concept of creation of composition.

ELEMENTS AND PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN

Introduction to principles of design

Balance-when the elements in a composition are balanced with each other. Movement-when your eyes tend to move all around and see everything in a composition. Pattern-Repetition of an element in the composition. Rhythm-when theres a smooth flow of elements in the composition. Contrast-when the elements in the composition are in contrasting colors. Emphasis-when one particular element in the composition is being emphasized. Unity-when all the elements in a composition are placed closely with each other.

Elements and Principles of Design

Exercise 5 collect photocopies from library, newspaper, magazines categorize them under Principles of Design and present it on A3 sheets. We collected photocopies of compositions and then we listed them under the Principles of Design. And finally we presented it on A3 . We gave all the details about the composition and also the reason for the principle it was.

Learning
We learnt how to differentiate between all the Principles of Design. We learnt how to give a reason for a particular principle of design. We learnt how to present our work. To differentiate between the Principles of design was not a difficult task, but I was really confused between the two principles of design 1.Harmony 2.Unity I finally understood that Harmony is when elements are placed in a peaceful manner in a composition and while in unity the elements are placed in a haphazard way. Similarity in both being that the elements are placed closed to each other.

LINE COMPOSITION

Line Compositions
Exercise6 Develop100 line compositions using principles of design with black ink on A4 sheet. We created 100 Line Compositions using black ink. And then applying Principles of Design to it. Finally the work was displayed and discussed in the class.

Learning

Improvement in Quality of line Tonal Values Understanding of Principles of Design Variety of line angle, curves, textured, thick, thin etc. Aesthetics-Identifying a layout within a frame Exploration of concepts-using specific number of lines to make the composition. Bold work is impactful

Line to shape

Exercise 7 create 10 compositions Line becoming shape We created 10 compositions in which lines were being converted into shapes. Then Finally our work was displayed and discussed in class to understand the term shape.

Learning

Conversion of line to shape Utilizing negative space between lines to create shapes Effects of proportions and sizing Placement and layout Any closed line becomes a shape. Principles of design makes a composition more effective.

Shape to Form
Exercise 8 Convert 3 Line to shape compositions to shape to form. Adding minimum lines and giving a 3d effect to the shape.

Learning

Addition of third dimension , layering, tonal value Effective 3d using minimal lines Quality of line acting as 3rd dimension Perspective-play of space Varying proportion

Texture
Exercise 9 20 rubbings from the surroundings. We created 20 textures by searching and studying textures all around us. We used different pencils to give the different effect to the textures.

Learning
We developed an ability to use elements around us to create composition. We learnt how unusual things in our surroundings can give a texture and can create a composition. We learnt how difference in tonal values change the effect of the texture.

Visual Portrait
Exercise 10 Random groups of 2 were made and the group had to represent each others personality in their drawings on A 3 sheet using any color medium. Random groups were made and we had to depict a person using colors.

Learning
We learnt how to represent a persons personality without showing their actual image or describing them in words, we learnt how to present characteristics and emotions using colors. We learnt how different colors and patterns can depict someone's personality.

Tessellation
Exercise11 create a colored tessellation on A3 We created a tessellation on A3 gateway sheet.

Learning
We learnt the Difference between a pattern and a tessellation. A Pattern is cant be a Tessellation but a Tessellation can be a Pattern
