Meaning of development
Development is a progression from a simpler or lower to a more advanced, mature, or complex form or stage. It is also defined as the gradual advancement or growth through a series of progressive changes. Development is a process, not a level. It is a path to achieve certain goals. Development conceived as a multidimensional process. Development must involve major changes in social structures, popular attitudes and national institutions as well as acceleration of economic growth, the reduction of inequality and the eradication of poverty. Development must represent the whole gamut of change by which an entire social system tuned to the diverse basic needs and desires of individuals and social groups within that system , moves away from a condition of life widely perceived as unsatisfactory toward a situation or condition of life regarded as materially and spiritually better.

Aspects of development
Human development: Human Development is about expanding the choices people have, to lead lives that they value and improving the human condition so that people will get the chance to lead full lives. And it is thus about much more than economic growth, which is only a means if a very important one of enlarging peoples choices. Social development: or Social change, is the phrase that refers to the alteration of social order within a society. It may also refer to the notion of socio-cultural evolution, or social progress. This is the philosophical idea that society always moves forward by dialectical means, or evolutionary means. It can be referred as particular paradigmatic change within the socioeconomic structure. Say for example, this could be a movement away from feudalism, and a movement towards capitalism. Its essentially a huge change in how society works in one area, en masse.

Economic development: A process that influences growth and restructuring of an economy to enhance the economic well being of a community. In the broadest sense, economic development encompasses three major areas: Policies that government undertakes to meet broad economic objectives including inflation control, high employment and sustainable growth. Policies and programs to provide services including building highways, managing parks and providing medical access to the disadvantaged. Policies and programs explicitly directed at improving the business climate through specific efforts, business finance, marketing, neighborhood development, business retention and expansion, technology transfer, real estate development and others. The main goal of economic development is improving the economic well being of a community through efforts that entail job creation, job retention, tax base enhancements and quality of life.

Sustainable development: Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
