Who would be the audience for your media product?

IMDB Reviews;
The Grudge- A teenage horror film released in 2004, reviews on the IMBD website suggest that this film is This is a movie that's heavy on atmosphere and freaky imagery since the story isn't linear you really have to pay attention. This quotation can therefore link into our own horror film resentment. Our film has a rather intellectual twist into why the bride becomes a killer, due to the clip only being 2 minutes long, we had to show the killing as quickly as possible, this therefore may be hard to understand why the Bride has suddenly changed her ways, however due to the target audience being teenage students (university age) due to most horror films have an age certificate of 18, they will have enough intellectual skills to understand the main story line. Tension and atmosphere are a big part of it. this quote is very stereotypical with horror films, the tense atmosphere is how the scene is set letting the audience know that something scary may happen. Due to our film being set in the woods the audience can automatically know that something uncanny will occur. When Zoe walks away from Joe and you can see the bride dragging herself up to Zoe, this will create tension, seeing that the girl is not moving away quick enough; no matter how much the audience try to shout at the screen it is obvious that Zoe is going to die and the desensitised may find this too obvious that this is how Zoe dies. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0391198

Due to the age certificate on the film as it is a 15, the under 18s do not have much of a chance to see this film, making it hard to be specifically targeted towards teenagers.

Final destination- A teenage horror film released in 2000 reviews on the IMBD website suggest that this film is they have to figure out when death is coming back at them. although final destination has a very different storyline to ours, this quote however can relate to when the teenage couple are murdered. They are not aware of The bride coming to kill them, however when Joe discovers his girlfriend dead, he knows he has to get out of the woods as fast as possible, or death could come after him.

Final destination is different, Nicely acted and filled with imaginative deaths. This quote shows that the more inventive deaths are the more sensitive the audience will become to the characters dying. If it is a stereotypically stabbing death, the audience have seen this happen many times before in other horror films, therefore the new ways of killing off people, can make the audience more aware of being killed the same way. E.g: when the two girls on final destination burn alive after getting locked in a sun bed, this could therefore stop people from using sun beds, showing that this film could have a major impact on their day to day lives.

This graph shows that final destination was more appealing for men to watch when comparing the two genders together. This shows that women appeal more to chick flicks and rom-coms rather than horror and gore.

How does this compare to our target audience?

Originally the target audience was for teenage students who wanted to gather at the cinema for social purposes to meet with their friends and watch a teen horror. However, most horror films tend to be an 18 due to the horror contents of the film being too inexplicit for that age to be able to watch it. By comparing other teen horrors like The Grudge and Final Destination, it appears that these films appeal more to the male gender rather than females; as they do not enjoy the thrill of vulnerability within the character as much as a male would. I would also make the age range higher for the target audience to 18-29 year olds, when comparing the other two graphs these age ranges appeared to have a high viewing point, meaning that most of the profit made for the film when distributed into mainstream cinemas would be due to 18-29 year olds, therefore making it targeted towards them, it will appeal and entice them to come and watch the film, increasing sales.

What type of audience do you think your production would appeal to?
What are you most afraid of?
16 14 12 10 8 6 4 2 0 Zombies Ghosts Little The Shadows Children unknown

What type of horror do you enjoy most?

16 14 12 10 8 6 4 2 0

These graph fits into our own movie due to the bride becoming a zombie killer. Due to the participants finding zombies the scariest character in horrors, hopefully making our teen horror film as realistic and scary as possible.

Slasher films are horrors which include gore and bloody killings, like stabbing. There is usually an obvious killer or villain who is a zombie or ghost, this would definitely fit into resentment; the effect of this being that our film will entice people to watch our horror due to it including the most scariest items in a teen horror.

Which is the scariest setting for a horror film ?

14 12 10 8 6 4 2 0

These graph fits into our own movie due to most of the setting being recorded in our local woods. This is a natural setting, of which most teenagers would be scared to walk through alone, by creating it as a horror setting it would make them more weary of walking through the woods. It is also good for natural lighting

Classifying Audiences

To classify the audience as a particular social group as a whole would be fairly hard, however I can categorise them into aspirations towards the film and what type of social class they may have. The audience targeted for my film Resentment would mainly be Innovators, this social valued group have been represented for my target audience because they are risk seekers, looking for a new exciting enthralment which the audience will not expect, these are usually used within horror films because they are seeking a new challenge. However we could also see the target audience categorise into the traditionalists due to them being guided in the traditional behaviours and story lines, and do not like something away from the norms and values. These audience typed would therefore be most scared, as the horror aspect of the film will be unexpected and take away the norms from society.

Classifying Audiences

To classify the audience as a particular social group as a whole would be fairly hard, however I can categorise into different social groups due to their background like social class, money income, job aspirations etc. The audience would categories into the C1 and C2 rankings, these are supervisory or clerical junior, Lower middle class and the C2 audiences being Skilled manual workers; skilled working class. These are students or workers who have regular hourly rate, likely to get an average pay, and have manual jobs, nothing too technical. However, if these students graduate at university to get a degree qualification, they would enter the B category and become a supervisory or clerical junior, lower middle class. This means they would receive higher wages due to their increase in qualifications. These social class types within the audience would suit these particular categories because they would fit into the film background well. Being a traditional bridal film, with a storyline that is rather predictable.
