ABORTION FEMALE INFANTICIDE DUDHPITI CHILD LABOR CHILD MARRIAGE TRAFFICKING DOWRY SATI SYSTEM

Abortion: the ultimate exploitation of women.........

49% of pregnancies among american women are unintended ;1/2 of these are terminated by abortion. Each year, 2 out of every 100 women aged 15-44 have an abortion; 47% of them have had at least one previous abortion and 55% have had a previous birth Between 1980 and 2010 estimate, four to 12 million girls were aborted because of their sex. Every year 11 million abortions take place in India but the sad part is that 10 millions are illegal.

The Female Infanticide

Female infanticide, the prevalent form of sex-selective infanticide is the systematic killing of girls at or soon after birth. About 12 million girls are born in India in a year. However 1 million of these babies die by the age of one. 1/3 of these deaths take place soon after birth. Infanticide is still practised in many villages in rural India. Methods vary from strangulation, to feeding poison, drowning in milk or burying alive.

Lakshmi refused to nurse the newborn and to silence the infants cries of hunger she fed her a poisonous combination of sap and castor oil. The baby died soon after.

According to UNICEF, up to 50 million girls are missing from Indias population due to the countrys gender discrimination.

Dudhpiti System
A System Followed In Olden Times Where A Girl Child Was Killed By Drowning Her In Milk

The Child Labor

A 9-year-old girl toils under the hot sun, making bricks from morning to night, seven days a week. She was trafficked with her entire family from Bihar, one of the poorest and most under developed state.

Trafficking
The girls who are forced into prostitution to support their families often feel their burden deeply. "When I was at work, 50 percent of me hated what I was doing," said one 14-year-old girl, who felt conflicted about being taken out of a brothel in Chiang Mai, Thailand. "But the other 50 percent wanted to stay so that I could earn money for my parents. My father cannot work. He is very old and I must support the family. It is my job."

Examples :
A man was arrested for allegedly trafficking women from Mizoram on the pretext of training them for spa work but, instead, coercing them into flesh trade. The operation was jointly carried out by the city crime branch and the Mizoram police. Over 20,000 abducted women and children were rescued as Chinese police busted more than 3,000 human trafficking rings and gangs last year, highlighting a major problem faced by China.

Child Marriage
Earlier, child marriages were highly prevalent in India. The young girls would live with their parents till they reached puberty. They Were Married To The Person Much Elder To Them. Percentage of girls getting married before the age of eighteen in different states is alarming. Madhya Pradesh 73% Rajasthan 68% UP - 64% Andhra Pradesh 71% Bihar 67% According to UNICEFs State of the Worlds Children-2009 report, 47% of India's women aged 20-24 were married before the legal age of 18, with 56% in rural area. As per the UNICEF (State of the Worlds Children-2009) report 40% of the world's child marriages occur in India.

Dowry
Dowry Is The Money Given In The Form Of Shelter To Bride At The Time Of Marriage So That She Is Well Maintained By The Bride Groom And Those Who Fail To Pay Dowry Either Daughters Are ill Treated And They Finally Commit Sucide.

The dowry system is so deeply rooted in Indian culture, that sometimes one feels that theres going to be no way out at least not for another century.

Sati System
Sati is an old, largely defunct custom, in which the widow was immolated alive on her husband's cremation..
