Improving Kibera
As you can see there are lots of problems in Kibera. Many people are concerned about the future of this area and have put forward suggestions to improve it. Today you are going to examine 3 schemes which aim to bring about improvements. Your task is to evaluate which approach works best, and in particular which approach is the most sustainable. How will you decide this?

6 key questions to ask when evaluating sustainability:


1.Did it tackle the real problems of the community and make improvements that were really needed? 2.Was it affordable for the country concerned? 3.Did local people get a say in it? 4.Did it benefit those who really needed help the most? 5.Did it bring about significant gains for the money spent? 6.Does this approach have a long term future or is it just a quick fix?
