Horticulture has proved to be the best diversification option for agricultural land use, because of assured and the remunerative returns to the farmers. The diverse agro-climatic conditions prevailing in various states are quite congenial for growing different Horticulture crops, successfully, almost throughout the year. Horticulture crops provide an effective drought proofing against the odds of the nature and assure the farmers satisfactory returns even during the years of deficit rainfall. This is the reason why Horticulture crops are fast replacing agriculture crops in dry tracts of any state. Another important benefit that the farmers can avail is related to value addition of several Horticulture produce, which offers very good scope for meeting the needs of different strata of consumers. With the onset of protected cultivation and consequent high quality produce, the horizons of export have greatly been expanded, offering unlimited scope to hi-tech farmers in the state. In spite of suitable climatic conditions, production of fruits, except mandarin orange, has not achieved desirable goals. Major horticulture crops grown in Sikkim are: Sikkim mandarin, passion fruit, pear, peach, plum, guava, litchi, avocado, etc. Seasonal and off-season vegetables, kharif and rabi potato Spice crops large cardamom, ginger, turmeric, garlic and chilli Mushroom, honey Medicinal and aromatic crops Flowers and ornamentals - orchids, lillium, carnation, gerbera, anthurium, etc. Sikkim population is projected at 8.84 lakh by 2020. Projected household demand for food in Sikkim will be 2 lakh tonnes of food grains, 38,719 tonnes of fruits and 92,000 tonnes of vegetables by 2020. Sikkim has great potential in the development of horticulture, especially in the cultivation of fruits.

PG team will identify Land in consultation with Basix Krushi Team and the concerned Authority of each states. PG will weed out deficiencies each of the land undertaken for survey , on the PH test and soil; test reports will be generated. PG to Implement Tilling water resources, irrigation will be concurrently implemented. PG to implement with Basixs team approval on Field inputs and monitoring will be done. PG/Basix and the Ducth Agri-Training Team will put up a common format across india to impart technical training to the villagers, land holders, and labourers .
