WHAT ARE THE BASIC SKILLS REQUIRED FOR MANAGER?

INTRODUCTION
ManagementMost of us are members of one organization or the others-be it a college, sports organisation,religious organization or a business organization. Each organization , whether business or non-business, has a goal and needs effective management to achieve that goal. Management helps in doing and getting things done through others. it is the process that optimizes human , material and financial resources of the organization for effective achievement of its goals.

DEFINITION
Terry and Franklin:

Management is a distinct process consisting of activities of planning, organizing, directing and controlling, preformed to determine and accomplish stated objectives with the use of human beings and other resources. Henri fayol: management is forecast, to plan, to organize, to command, to co-ordinate and control activities of others.

Who are the managers?


Managers are those who continue the process of management. In other words manager is a person who leads the organization, manages the people, by using the resources. He is a person represents the external world on behalf of the people.

Skills of a managers
Human skill is equally important at all levels of organizations because managers at all levels deal with the work-force and must possess human skills to make workers contribute towards organizational goals. There are 3 types of managers skills Conceptual skill Human skill Technical skill

Conceptual skill: These skill are referred to the mental ability of a manager. It is the managers ability to analyze the organization as a whole. He must be knowledgeable and imaginative to use of skills. Adding new product line, deleting the existing product. This is done by the top levels of management.

Human skill: As we know management is the getting things done by others and human skill is the ability of manager to work with and understand people in the organization. It increases confidence of others to work as a team and to co-operate with each others. It is done by the middle levels of management.

Technical skill: It is the ability to use tools and techniques in ones area of specialization. Managers possess technical skills to perform manufacturing operation or public administration. It is done by the lower level of management because all the machines and production processes are done by the lower level management.

CONCLUSION
As we move down the hierarchy, more technical skills and place conceptual skills and required by manager as managers at lower level deal with job techniques more than framing plans and policies. At higher levels, the need for analyzing the organization as a whole and co-ordinating the organizational activity is more (conceptual skill) than technical skills to perform a job.
