Coxae bones

(Ilium, Ischium, Pubis, Acetabulum)

Antomical Location & Position

Location: It is situated on the both sides of the sacrum and connected to the femur bone. Position: hold the bone in such a way a) The long and curved border should be up wards & narrow part downwards. b) The cup shaped depression should be outwards with its notch directed downwards. c) The symphyseal surface will lie in the median plane. d) Ant. Sup. Iliac spine and Pubic tubercle lie in the same vertical plane. e) Acetabulum will direct to the side it belongs.

PARTS OF HIP BONE

It has three parts: a)Ilium corresponds to scapula a)Pubis corresponds to part of calvicle a)Ischium corresponds to corocoid process

Ilium
Ilium means flank The largest area of the hip bones Forms the superior region of the coxal Consists of 2 large plates that help to support the internal organs and provide attachment for muscles of the back, sides, and the buttocks The hip joint of the femur is part of the ilium

PARTS OF ILIUM

ILIAC CREST

BORDERS OF ILIUM
1. Anterior Border 2. Posterior Border 3 Medial Border

Anterior Border
1. Anterior Border it has Ant. Sup. Iliac spine - related with Inguinal Lig., Sartorius, Fascia lata & Tensor Fascia lata Ant. Inf. Iliac spine - related with Rectus Femoris & Iliofeoral lig. Notch between two spines related with lateral cutaneous nerve of thigh passes.

Posterior Border
Long curved border. Extends from post. Sup. Iliac spine above to upper end of post. Border of Ischium below & is continuous with it. Post. Sup. Iliac spine & Post. Inf. Iliac spine : Between them Sacro tuberus Ligament is attached

Ischium
It attaches to the gluteal loin This is the bone we sit on It consists of 2 broad curves Lies below the ilium It is attached to the pubis in the front and the ilium in the back It functions as a place for muscle attachment which provides support and protection

Pubis Bone
It is the located at the ventral and anterior side (front-most portion of the coxae bone. It attaches to the ilium and on the sides of the ischium on the bottom It provides structural support as well as allowing for muscles to attach to the inner thigh It is covered by a layer of fat (that is covered by mons pubis) which protects the pubic bone The left and right hip bones join at the Pubic symphasis

Acetabulum
Part of the ball and socket joint The hip joint is a joint between the acetabulum and the femar Its very deep which allows for more stability, but less flexibility Its function is to support the weight of the body This area would similar to a condyle because it is rounded, smoother, and more articular The smoothness allows there to be less friction and irritation with movement
