Who am I ?

The science
of the soul
Who am I ?
My real identity

is
NOT this temporary BODY,
but...

the eternal SOUL !!!

Proof for the
existence
of the Soul
•Common sense
Difference between the dead
body and the living person

•Intuitive understanding

The real self “I” distinct from body, mind

and intelligence
•Consciousness - the symptom of the
existence of the soul
Eg. Sun rays are sympton of sun

Consciousness distinguishes a dead

body from a living one
Conciousness gives the proof of the soul

•Near Death Experiences (NDEs)

•Past-life memories

•Astral body travel

Knowledge of the Soul
The Soul is :

•indestructible

BG 7.7
The soul can never be
nainam chindanti sastrani
cut to pieces by any
nainam dahati pavakah
weapon, nor burned by
na cainam kledayanty apo
fire, nor moistened by
na sosayati marutah
water, nor withered by
the wind
•individual
BG 2.12
Never was there a time
na tv evaham jatu nasam
when I did not exist, nor
na tvam neme janadhipah
you, nor all these kings;
na caiva na bhavisyamah
nor in the future shall any
sarve vayam atah param
of us cease to be

BG 15.7
Never was there a time
na tv evaham jatu nasam
when I did not exist, nor
na tvam neme janadhipah
you, nor all these kings;
na caiva na bhavisyamah
nor in the future shall any
sarve vayam atah param
of us cease to be
•sat-cid-ananda
Body is asat, acit, nirananda

•situated in the region of the heart

Soul gives the energy to the heart to flutter

•changes bodies

BG 2.22
As a person puts on new
vasamsi jirnani yatha
garments, giving up old
vihaya
ones, the soul similarly
navani grhnati naro 'parani
accepts new material
tatha sarirani vihaya jirnany
bodies, giving up the old
anyani samyati navani dehi
and useless ones
BG 2.13

dehino 'smin yatha dehe

kaumaram yauvanam jara
tatha dehantara-praptir
dhiras tatra na muhyati

As the embodied soul

continuously passes, in
this body, from boyhood
to youth to old age, the
soul similarly passes into
another body at death. A
sober person is not
bewildered by such a
change
•infinitesimally small
Kesa agra sata bhagasya The size of the soul is 1/10,000 the
Satadha kalpitasyaca size of the tip of hair.
•inconceivable

BG 2.25
It is said that the soul is
avyakto 'yam acintyo 'yam
invisible, inconceivable
avikaryo 'yam ucyate
and immutable. Knowing
tasmad evam viditvainam
this, you should not
nanusocitum arhasi
grieve for the body.
Matter is formless, The SoulMatter is dead, spirit gives
gives form to matter. Eg Shirtlife to matter Eg. Car

Matter undergoes tranformations

Takes Grows
Birth
stays Produces
offsprings

dwindles Dies
Spirit soul does not undergo
these tranformations

BG 2.20
For the soul there is
na jayate mriyate va
neither birth nor death at
kadacin
any time. He has not
nayam bhutva bhavita va na
come into being, does not
bhuyah
come into being, and will
ajo nityah sasvato 'yam
not come into being. He is
purano
unborn, eternal, ever-
na hanyate hanyamane
existing and primeval. He
sarire
is not slain when the
body is slain
Gross body Subtle body

Earth Mind
Water Intelligence

Fire False ego

Air

Ether

If one gives up his subtle body

before the time of death, he gets
liberated
Is man just a powerful
computer or a robot ?

• Machines are designed and

programmed by humans.

• Humans have an independent

consciousness.

(comparison between a camera and

a panel of judges watching a drama)
Am I GOD ?

We are :

•not GODS

•GOD’s

•can never become GOD

Soul Supersoul
•Humans (jivatmas) GOD (paramatma)

•Infinitesimal (anu) Infinite (vibhu)

•Cognizant of Cognizant of
one’s body everyone
and everything
•A loving Eternally a
servitor loving master
Simply saying is not enough, one
should act accordingly

Eg of Birds and the sage

By chanting mantra,
Person becomes
“Brahmabhuta prasannatma”

We are one in quality with

GOD, but different in
quantity. Our salvation
depends on the
acceptance of this reality.
