PREFERRED COMMUNICATION METHODS

My preferred method of communication is email. I check my email several times a day and will get back to you within 24 hours. Every month a newsletter will go home with your child including information on what we are learning and special events. Educated at the University of Illinois At Urbana-Champaign -Bachelor of Sciences: English Concentration and Special Approval in Special Education

-Dvorak Park Chicago Park District via After school Matters Tutoring Program for reading in Dramatic Arts -ChesterBrook Academy Daycare Center: assistant teacher for toddlers18-24 months.

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
Be Respectful -Raise Your Hand And Wait To Be Called On -Listen to others when they are speaking -I will treat you with respect so you will be able to treat me the same way

Be Safe -Use positive words -Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself -sit appropriately at your desk and in every area in the classroom -Please ask to go to the bathroom - I will not tolerate, nor should you, any behavior that takes away from the safety of this classroom
Be Kind: -Use positive words -Be positive towards others, use encouragement -Be polite If there is a problem, please come talk to me If you caused a problem, find a way to fix it, if you cannot find a way I will help you find the best solution

LANGUAGE ARTS
1. Read narrative and expository text aloud fluently and accurately to support comprehension

2. Distinguish between similarly spelled words by identifying the sounds of the letters that differ.

3. Demonstrate understanding of information presented by asking questions, staying on topic, link comments to the remarks of others, predict outcomes, and identify the main ideas.

READING
1. Answer questions that demonstrate his/her understanding of the text or story. Students refer to the text in order to get answers. 2. Determine the meaning of words and phrases used in different types of texts and distinguish the literal meaning from the nonliteral meaning. 3. Recount stories, fables, folktales, and myths from different cultures. Describe characters in a story (e.g., their traits, motivations, or feelings), indentify the setting and problem, what were the most important events in the story, and identify how the story ends.

MATH
1. Develop and understand the meanings of multiplication and division as well as the strategies of multiplication and division.

2. Develop and understand the concept of fractions and unit fractions not only using numbers but objects as representation as well.

3. Describe and analyze two and three dimensional shapes and figures by comparing and classifying the shapes by their sides. Students should also be able to relate their fractions to these shapes in order to show fractions of a whole.

SOCIAL STUDIES
1. Explain the difference between the past, present, and future. Use these concepts to recognize contributions made by people from different cultures, races, religion, etc.

2. Ask historical and investigating questions and use historical sources to get their answers.

3. Understand how different economic systems operate in the exchange, production, distribution and consumption of goods and services.

SCIENCE
1. Identify and describe the body parts of different organisms and categorize them by shape, size, and color. 2. Identify and describe the characteristics of the solar system. 3. Demonstrate the steps of scientific inquiry: -describe an event -ask questions -develop an hypothesis -collect data using instruments and technologies -record data -compare data and ask if hypothesis was right -formulate a solution or solutions.

DISCIPLINE POLICY
Positive rewards like stickers of your choice and praise are given depending on individual behavior, group behavior, and class behavior. Consequences for Bad Behavior: First offense: verbal warning Second Offense: Note to parents Third Offense: call home and parent/teacher/principal conference.

CELEBRATING SPECIAL EVENTS


Celebrating special events, having seasonal parties, and celebrating birthdays are an enjoyable and fun part of our school year. Please feel free to bring a special treat for your childs birthday or special event.

Healthy snacks are preferred but there will be opportunities for special treats like cupcakes, cake, and candy. In the event that there is a party, there will be a sign up sheet for parents to fill out.

If you do not feel comfortable with sending treats or having your child participate in the seasonal parties or birthdays, feel to send me an email or give me a call.
