History of Educational Development

1945 Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the states in the Federal Republic of Germany. 1949 :The Basic Law, stipulates that the traditional federal order be continued in the areas of education, science and culture. Thus. The Unification Treaty of (1990) between the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic required the five states in eastern Germany to lay the legislative foundations for the reorganization of education by 30 June 1991.

1992/1993 : the adoption of school legislation by the parliaments of the states in eastern Germany, western Germany's differentiated system of secondary education was introduced in all five states in eastern Germany.

Hauptschule (General school): Age Levels is eleven to sixteen. The lowest track in the German education system. prepare for occupations that require training. After graduate, they can go on to a vocational school.

A Gesamtschule (comprehensive school): Its a school that combines the Gymnasium (Grammar school), and the Realschule (Intermediate school). First school introduced in Germany in the 60's. A student can switch between the different tracks without changing buildings.

A little more advanced that the Hauptschule. Learn the basic subjects Prepare them for a mid level job in business. If a student receives high enough grades, can transfer to a Gymnasium.

Gymnasium (Grammar school): This school prepares students to enter a university. learn subjects like German, math, physics, chemistry, geography, biology, art, PE, religion and history. They are also required to learn two foreign languages. In the 13th grade students prepare for the Abitur (University qualification exam)
