-:NORTH-EAST INDIA:North-East of India is the land of Blue Mountains, Green Valleys and Red River. Nestled in the Eastern Himalayas this region is abundant in Natural Beauty, Wild life, Flora & Fauna and its Colorful people. A blend of all these makes it the most beautiful Eco-Tourism destination in South Asia. The alluring land of North East India is one of the most treasured eco-friendly sites in the entire world. This isolated and mysterious land of natural abundance, is still to be touched by the outside world. The region comprises of seven states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura known as Seven Sister and Brother Sikkim as the latest inclusion . The colorful tribal people who still retain their pristine touch mostly inhabit it, offering you some beautiful Eco-tours with Trekking & Wild life.

-:ARUNACHAL PRADESH:The eastern crest of India cocoons a mystical land of bliss- Arunachal Pradesh. This 'Land of Rising Sun' has many wonders and attractions for travelers which includes the wavering rivers, the snow clad mountains, exclusive flora and fauna, legendary cultural heritage trailing since ancient times, the thick woodlands, the tribal terrains. Located on the easternmost Himalayas , Arunachal is one of the most sparsely populated states of India. It borders Tibet, China, Bhutan and Myanmar. Arunachal is home to more than 60 aboriginal tribal groups and sub-groups. There are five major rivers - Kameng, Subansiri, Siang, Lohit and Tirap, which go on to form one of the biggest river systems in the world, the mighty Brahmaputra. The snow peaked mountain ranges of Arunachal is home to some of the tallest peaks of the world. Among the thousands of species of orchids as many as 600 species of orchid are found in Arunachal Pradesh.

How to Reach Arunachal Pradesh:


By Rail: The closest railway station is Harmuty located at a distance of 33 km from Itanagar. By Air: Lilabari Airport of Assam is the nearest airport for the state. By Road: A good connectivity by bus is provided by Arunachal State Transport and Private transport operators. A direct bus facility from Guwahati (381km), Shillong (481km) connects to Itanagar. Best Time to Visit: The best time for Arunachal Pradesh travel is October to April.

PLACES OF INTEREST:All though Arunachal Pradesh have many beautiful cities to explore, but the most wonderous place to look out for are followings:Itanagar: It is the capital city of Arunachal Pradesh. Tourists can visit many places of interest here which are evidences of glourious past of the state. Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum, The Buddhist Temple, Ganga Lake (Gyaker Sinyi), The State Museum and Polo Park are of prime attraction. Tawang: This region is a home of the Monpa tribes and a prominent place of the Mahayana Buddhists sect. The city is famous for the oldest Buddhist monastery or Gompa locally called as the 'Galden Namgyal Lhatse'. It is just perfect for adventure sports like trekking and hiking. Bomdila: To relax in the lap of nature ,visit Bomdila ,where you get to see the illustrious landscape, mountains wearing a scarf of snow, apple groves, pleasant weather, affectionate people and Buddhist Monasteries. Check out the Crafts Center manufacturing finest of the carpets with unique hues and motifs. Bhalukpong / Tipi: A botanical delight, an orchidarium at Tipi, showcases 300 species of flora and fauna. Turbulent water falls, Perennially fresh forests, and lavish expanse gives opportunity for photo adventure. The rambling Kameng river is hot spot for white water rafting and angling in Arunachal Pradesh. Ziro: Picturesque Ziro is located on the Apatani Plateau. The Tawang Monastery


The Tawang Monastery also known as "Galden Namgyal Lhatse" was founded by Merak Lama Lodre Gyatso in the year 186061 AD. The Tawang Monastery stands on the start of a hill, about 10,000 ft above sea level and has ravines in the south and west, narrow ridge on the north and a gradual slope on the east. It offers an imposing and picturesque view of the Tawang-Chu valley. Tawang monastery is the largest of its kind in the country and 2nd largest in Asia. Tawang monastery is the place where the 6th Dalai Lama,Tsangyang Gyatso got his enlightment of knowledge.

The Urgelling Monastery


The birthplace of His Holi Highness, the sixth Dalai Lama, the sacred Urgelling monastery lies about 5 kms to the south of the Tawang town. The Urgelling monastery traces its root around 1489 & was established by Urgen Sangpo as a Buddhist spiritual centre.

-:ASSAM:A Peerless land, as that is what Assam means owing its derivation from a Sanskrit word 'ASOMA', is an entryway to the North East India. It is a region where nature herself has painted the vibrant landscape, hillocks, woods , brooks and streams, flora and fauna and above all the affectionate people. Crafted with much special care, the state of Assam India cast a spell on the travelers exploring the treasures of pleasure on Assam tourism. An abode of one horned rhino, blue rivers and red mountains, aromatic tea gardens make Tourism in Assam a special experience. Assam bears a testimony of rich cultural heritage through its temples, monuments, and torrential Brahmaputra River. It is legendary state in terms of traditions and civilization and hence makes for an amazing experience.

How to Reach Assam:


Rail: Rajdhani Express from Delhi will take you to Guwahati in about 24 to 36 hours. Air: Guwahati, Tezpur, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Lakimpur, Silchar are the Airports that provide Air Connectivity . Road: A web of bus network operates around the by private transporters and Assam State Transport Corporation. Best time to visit: Assam travel is best in the months of October to March.

PLACES OF INTEREST:Guwahati: The gateway city of Guwahati is an absolute must on the itinerary of any visitor. Guwahati is Situated on the Southern Bank of the mighty Brahmaputra river the son of Brahma. In history, Guwahati was identified as 'Pragjyotispura' meaning the 'light of the East '. The Present Name Guwahati is apparently derived from 'Guwai' and 'Hatt' that mean Betelnut market. Things to see in and around Guwahati are Kamakhya temple, Basistha Ashram, Kalakhetra, Umanda temple, State Zoo, and many more. Kaziranga: Kaziranga National Park is spread over an area of 430 sq. kms consisting of dense forest, rugged reeds, marshes and shallow pools. Elephant grass grows up to a few meters making it an ideal grazing ground for the famed One Horned Rhinoceros. Some of the rare species to be found in Kaziranga are Indian Bison, Swamp Deer, Sambar, Hog Deer, Sloth Bear, Tiger Leopard, Leopard Cat, Jungle Cat, Hog Badger, Capped Langur, Hoolock Gibbon, Jackel, Goose, Hornbill, Adjutant Stork, Ibis, Cormorant, Egret, Heron, Fishing Eagle, and a lot more. A no of migratory Birds can also be seen during winters.

Digboi: Digboi have the oldest operating & second oldest oil field in the world and Digboi refinery became a centenarian in 2001. Oil was struck in Digboi long before it was found in Middle East. Along with the coalmines and Tea Estates it is richest area in entire NorthEastern Region.The Digboi Golf Course is an 18 hole course best maintained of all the golf courses of North-Eastern India. Another well maintained course is the nearby Margherita Golf Course half an hours drive from Digboi. Manas National Park:This Tiger Reserve of Assam is one of the most Magnificent National Parks of India. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Covering an area of 519.77 sq. kms is one of the Dense, Most wild and least frequented National Parks. It is also famous for its unique biodiversity. Some rare species found here are Wild Boar, Swamp Deer, Golden langur, Rhinoceros, Tiger and Hundreds of Winged species. Nameri National Park : Nestled at the foothills of Eastern Himalayas, Nameri National Park covers an area of 200 Sq. Kms. With river Jia Bhoroli bifurcating the park, it is the most scenic of all the national parks of Assam. Its in the eastern border of Assam in the valley and mountainous Arunachal Pradesh, Nameri is home to some of of the endangered species like White Winged Wood Duck, Sloth Bear, Tiger Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Sambar, Gaur, Indian Wild Dog, four varieties of Hornbill and many other winged species. Majuli:It is the largest river Island in the world with the capital named Garamur. Majuli is interesting for its 22 Satras, Hindu Vaishnavite monasteries. Assamese poet, composer and philosopher Sankardeva founded the institution of satra in 15th century. Majuli reveals the concept of Assamese Hinduism, which beliefs in Vishnu as pre-eminent deity, without a form.

Sibasagar: Ahom Dynasty, which ruled Assam for 600 years had their capital in Sibasagar. It is now an important centre of tea and oil industries.Shivdol-the tallest Shiv temple in the world is situated over there.

Assam Tea Garden: Assam is popular around the world for it's refreshing, full bodied malty tea. Assam tea had been cultured long back (about 2000 years ago) when tea was only consumed as a health drink or medicine by the tribes but it was the first time when Bodos, brought tea in the limelight. Once neglected beverage is now the most prominent drink of world and India is the largest producer. About 400 millions kgs of tea per year comes from Assam. It contribute more than half of total countries tea production. Exquisite and incredibly silent tea gardens are bliss for eyes. These are mainly located in the upper Assam and southern Barak Valley region. Serene and smiling tea gardens are one of the major tourist attraction. Bihu:The most important festivals of Assam are the Bihus, celebrated with fun and abundance by all irrespective of caste, creed, religion, faith and belief. There are three Bihu festivals in Assam - in the months of Bohaag (Baisakh, the middle of April), Maagh (the middle of January), and Kaati (Kartik, the middle of October). The most important and colourful of the three Bihu festival is the Spring festival "Bohag Bihu" or Rangali Bihu celebrated in the middle of April. This is also the beginning of the agricultural season.

-:MANIPUR:This little corner is a paradise on Earth where Mother Nature has bestowed her bounty extra generously. Manipur`s exotic scenery, mystic atmosphere and salubrious climate are all that fascinate tourists. Abounded with festivals, Manipuris are best introduced by their world famous "Manipuri Dance"- one of the major dance forms of India. The state is inhabited by over two dozens tribes. Manipur claims to have invented the game Polo, the main sport of Manipur. Loktak Lake with floating- Weed- Island and dancing deer Sangai, is of tourist interest. Literally meaning - "a jewelled land", this little corner is a veritable, paradise on earth. Untouched and undiscovered, Manipur promises to be the great tourist discovery of the 21st century. An oval shaped valley surrounded by blue green hills, rich in art and tradition has inspired descriptions such as the "Switzerland of the East" with cascading rapids, tripping rivers, carpets of flowers and exotic blooms. It lies to the south of Nagaland & north of Mizoram. It shares the international boundary with Myanmar on the western and southern side. How To Reach Manipur: Though Manipur has no rail network, but it is well connected by bus with Guwahati & Silchar cities of Assam, Dimapur of Nagaland. Besides the Imphal Airport avails daily flights within Delhi, Guwahati, Silchar & Agartala.

Loktak Lake: The largest freshwater lake in northeastern India, also called the only Floating lake in the world due to the floating phumdis on it, is located near Moirang in Manipur. This ancient lake plays an important role in the economy of Manipur. It serves as a source of water for hydropower generation, irrigation and drinking water supply. The lake is also a source of livelihood for the rural fisherman who live in the surrounding areas and on phumdis. 55 rural and urban hamlets around the lake have a population of about 100,000 people. Keibul Lamjao National Park: It is a national park in the Bishnupur district of the state of Manipur in India. It is 40 km2 (15.4 sq mi) in area, the only floating park in the world, located in North East India, and an integral part of Loktak Lake.The national park is characterized by many floating decomposed plant materials locally called phumdis. To preserve the natural refuge of the endangered Manipur Eld's Deer or Brow-antlered Deer or Sangai also called the Dancing Deer, listed as an endangered specie by IUCN, the park which was initially declared as a Sanctuary in 1966, was subsequently declared as National Park in 1977 through a gazette notification. Other Famous places to watch out for are the Shree Govindajee Temple, Khwairamband Bazar or IMA Market, Khonghampat Orchidarium, Manipur State Museum, few war cemeteries like Shaheed Minar, Red Hill, Moirang, Khongjom, & a small hill station called Ukhrul.

-:MEGHALAYA:Meghalaya is an embodiment of eternal bliss and tranquility wrapped in utter beauty. The exposition of exuberant emerald hills and glens often bathing in frequent drizzles will resuscitate your spirits. How To Reach Meghalaya: By Air: The state has no airport. Guwahati is the nearest aiprport from Shillong (128Kms). But a helicopter services is operated by Guwahati and Tura for Shillong. By Rail: The state has no railway station. Guwahati is the closest railway station. By Road: The state has a good Road Network which encompasses the state conveniently. NH 40 connects the state with Guwahati and other cities of the country.

Places Of Interest:
Shillong: The capital city of Meghalaya, Shillong , is marked with charming valleys, huge mountains, lovely lush parks. Some of the famous destinations like Lady Hydari Park, Shillong Peak, Museum of Entomology, Golf Links, Waterfalls, and Ward's Lake in Shillong form an inevitable part of tourism in Meghalaya. Cherapunjee: Known to get the maximum amount of rainfall in the world, it is famous for Nohsngithiang falls in Meghalaya. The beauty of exquisite waterfalls entices people from all over the world.

Mawsynram: Situated about 56 kms away from Shillong, it is known for the huge stalagmite creation shaped like a Shiv-linga and known as Mawjymbuin'. Mawsynram has awesome climate and so allures the tourists for its serene ambiance.
Jakrem: Famous for the hot water springs, it has Mawphlang and Ranigodam as favorite spots for Picnic and Angling. Jowai: The gateway to Nartiang, a delightful village further north that has a interesting collection of druid stones, is an amusement park. Traversing through the region we can explore a monument dedicated to the first freedom fighter hanged by Britishers .

-:MIZORAM:The beautiful northeastern state of India, Mizoram, slices its borders with Myanmar, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Assam and Manipur. The word Mizo means highlander and Mizoram means the land of mizos , the hedonists, who are very particular about their ethics and deontology. The cities of Mizoram are cocooned by the mighty mystic mountains, rare flora and fauna and thick bamboo forests. On the contrary of these woods are the precipitous hills with lavish green fields. The meandering river with a graceful gait and shimmering waterfalls make up the exorbitant atmosphere of the state. The capital city Aizwal along with many others has potential of exciting tourism in Mizoram. How to Reach Mizoram: By Air: Aizwal is thoroughly connected by flights from major cities like Kolkata, Imphal and Guwahati. By Rail: The closest railway stataion for Aizwal is Silchar in Assam. There are many trains from Guwahati also which take 19 hours to reach Aizwal. By Road: Aizwal is accessible from Shillong and Guwahati by road. Aizwal is connected by buses and taxies with Silchar through NH 54.

Aizawl: The State capital of Aizawl is located at an altitude of 4000 feet above sea level. Standing on a high ridge surrounded on the east by the deep green valley of river Tlawng, with its lush green deep valleys, and on the north protected by beautiful high hills of Durtlang, it stands like a high citadel. An ideal hill station for those looking for some fresh air and solitude. Places of interest in Aizawl include the Museum at Macdonald's Hill, the Mizoram State Museum . Tamdil Lake: A natural beautiful lake, 85 kms from Aizawl near Saitual village is in the midst of cool, virgin forest that offers an ideal picnic spot for tourists. It has boating facilities for the tourists and accommodation is available at the Tourist lodge.
Vantawng Water Falls: It is 137 kms from Aizawl, located near an idyllic beautiful town of Thenzawl. The fall is 750 feet high, surrounded by a lush green tropical forest filled with bamboo groves. Champhai: It is a sub-divisional headquarters on the Indo-Myanmar border, 192 kms away from Aizawl. Cool and healthy, Champai and its surroundings present the tourist with a view of the hills of Myanmar. The town is a developing venue for Indo-Myanmar border trade and ideal place for marketing all kinds of goods. The legendary Rihdil Lake is 22 kms away, inside Myanmar. Lunglei: Lunglei, the district headquarters town of south Mizoram, is 235 kms from Aizawl. It has great natural landscape beauty and is rich in flora and fauna. The scenic beauty and cool, pleasant climate make Lunglei, a beautiful hill station for the tourists. Bung and Paikhai: Both are situated at a distance of 16 kms from Mizoram and are cool breezy places for a day's vacation away from Aizawl.

-:NAGALAND:One of the smallest states of the Indian Union, Nagaland is yet to be explored, as far as tourist destinations are concerned. Nagaland is entirely a remote terrain and the mesmerizing sceneries surrounding it makes Nagaland, a place worth a visit for those adventurous in spirit. Nagaland consists of the former Naga hills districts of Assam and the former Tuensang frontier divisions. Administered earlier by the President, Nagaland was made a state on 1st December 1963. Nagaland consists of seven Administrative Districts, inhabited by 16 major tribes along with other sub-tribes. Each tribe is distinct in character from the other in terms of customs, language and dress. How to Reach Nagaland:
By Air: Dimapur is the only airport in Nagaland and it is well connected by flights from Delhi and Calcutta and the rest of the country. By Rail: The important railhead in Nagaland is Dimapur on the North Eastern Railway Track. By Road: The towns and villages of Nagaland are connected by the Nagaland State Transport Association. Buses are frequent from Dimapur to Guwahati, Shillong.

Kohima: The Capital perched at 1444.12 meters above sea level, Kohima enjoys a temperate climate throughout the year. The panoramic view of Kohima unfolds at 16 kms from your destination, nestled among the pristine hills.
Kohima War Cemetery: This is a symbolic memorial raised as a citation for the supreme sacrifices made by the officers and men of the allied forces, to halt the tide of the Japanese onslaught during the Second World War. This was their last post. The cemetery is beautifully and meticulously maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. The Catholic Cathedral : The red roofed Catholic Cathedral of Reconciliation, located at Aradura hill is an important landmark in Kohima. It is one of the biggest Cathedrals in the entire north-east and houses the biggest cross in India carved out of wood .The Cathedral was inaugurated on the day of the UN's day of Reconciliation .It is a place worth seeing for its perfect blend of indigenous architecture. Dimapur: This site was the first headquarter, established by the British. The Triple Falls located in Seithekima village area, is another resort being developed by the Department of Tourism. As the name suggests, it is a three-tier waterfall, cascading from a height of 280 feet into an inviting natural pool. Dimapur was the ancient capital of Kachari Kingdom. A small footprint of the megalithic culture still exists.

-:SIKKIM:Sikkim tourism is incredible! Sikkim is a wonderland in the bosom of Eastern Himalayas with its avant-garde surroundings and spectacular tableau. The Shangrila, the Mt. Kanchenjunga makes Sikkim a charming land representing a concoction of Buddhism and Tibetology. With Buddhism predominant in the state you will see many monasteries and ruby clad monks on your Sikkim tour. For you, the nature lovers, the state has eminent orchids sanctuary where 500 indigenous species of orchids are found. An Sikkim tour has many druthers for adventurers. On your way to trekking you will witness many quaint dales and mountain lakes. A base for mountaineering expeditions the rivers of Teesta and Rangeet are superb for river rafting.
How to Reach Sikkim:
By Air : The nearest airport Bagdogra, near Siliguri in West Bengal, is connected by air to New Delhi, Kolkata and Guawahati. You can also commute by helicopter to Sikkim. By Rail: Siliguri (114 kms) and New Jalpaiguri (125 kms) are the two closest railway stations connecting Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Guwahati and other important cities in India with Sikkim. By Road: The state is connected by road to Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Siliguri and also to all the District Headquarters within Sikkim. Also a bus service is offered by The Sikkim Nationalized Transport (SNT) from all major cities and towns in North Bengal to Gangtok.

PLACES OF INTEREST: North Sikkim: In North Sikkim tourists can enjoy seeing Mangan (the capital of North Sikkim famous for the Phensong and Phodong Monastery), Kabi Longtsok ,Singhik (offering a picturesque view of Mt. Kanchenjunga and its adjoining peaks), Chungthang Monastery, Lachen (base for mountaineering and trekking expeditions), Yumthang Valley, Chungthang, Lachung, Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary, Thangu, Gurudongmar and Chopta Valley. South Sikkim: In South Sikkim you can enjoy Namchi ,Ravangla (an ideal destination for village tourism, tea gardens, monasteries, flora and fauna, mountains picturesque view, waterfalls, quaint villages, culture), Temi Tea Garden, Tendong Hill and Maenam Hill. East Sikkim: If you are in East Sikkim do not miss out Government Institute of Cottage Industry, Do-Drul Chorten (Stupa), Deer Park (Rustomji Park), White Hall, Enchey Monastery, Tashi View Point, Ganesh Tok (temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha), Hanuman Tok (temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman). -:TRIPURA:One of the seven states in the North East, Tripura is believed to be originated from "Tripura Sundari" - the supreme deity of the state remarkable in Hindus as one of the fifty one piths of Hindu Pilgrims. It is surrounded by Bangladesh in north, south, south-east & west, Mizoram & Assam in the east . In spite of having 19 tribes, the majority of the population of Tripura is Bengali. Situated in one of the remotest corner of the country, Tripura is one of the best potential places that caters the taste of everything from palaces to lakes and hill station. Primarily the land was called Tuipra which connotes A land adjoining the water. Tour to Tripura will be very exciting because of its ethnic cultural diversity, its bountiful natural purlieus, its temples, museums and palaces .
How to Reach Tripura: By Air: Agartala, the state capital has the main airport where many public and private airlines operate regular flights. By Rail: Agartala Railway Station links upto Silchar in Assam & Lambding in Meghalaya. Kumarghat Railway Station(140 km from Agartala) has direct links to Gauwahati. By Road: NH 44 connects Agartala to Guwahati via Shillong. But because of location reaching Tripura is easier through Bangladesh by road.

Places of Interest:
Agartala: The capital city, lying on the banks of Howrah River, was the seat of the Kings of Tripura of the Debbarman dynasty. The Places of Interest in Agartala are Ujjayanta Palace (a Greek styled palace built by by Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikaya), Kunjaban Palace, Jagannath Temple, Buddha Mandir, Ravindra Kanan, State Museum, Tribal Museum, Sukanta Academy, Laxminarayan Temple, Uma Maheswar Temple, Malanch Niwas, Rabindra Kanan, Purbasha, Handicrafts Designing Centre, Fourteen Goddess Temple & Portuguese Church .

Udaipur: Formerly called as Rangamati and Radha Kishorepur, the city of Udaipur in Tripura is a house of many temples. Tripura Sundri temple or Mata Tripur Sundri (Maa Kali) temple, Bhubeneshwari temple, Sepahijala-the wildlife sanctuary are must visit .
Unakoti: It means One less than a crore and said that these many rock cut engravings are available here. According to the Hindu mythos Lord Shiva took a night halt at this location when he was going Varanasi / Kashi along with one crore God and Goddesses. The next morning he asked other God and Goddesses to wake up and proceed for Kashi but no except Shiva proceeded for Kashi. Lord Shiva cursed others and since then they have transformed into stone images. Thereby there are one less than crore images in a charming lush landscape. Jampui Hill: It is home of eternal springs, beautiful land scape and soothing climate. The hill ranges shelters Mizo and Reang tribes.It is famous for the Orange Plantation & Orange Festival in December-January month. Neermahal Palace: This water palace built on RudraSagar Lake is a royal Palace with influence of Hindu and Mughal architecture. The castles, the whopping towers, the moats and the bridges are simply breath taking. The two parts of the palace, one on Western side called Andar Mahal (used by the royal family) and the other one on Eastern side (used by the security personnels and servants).

Effect of Insurgency Problems to the Tourism of North-East India: Although the Incredible North-East has many graceful & breathetaking scenes for the tourists. But in true sense, most of the NorthEast India has been excluded from the eyes of tourists cause of the Insurgency problems across the region. BNLF in Mizoram, ANVC in Meghalaya, NLFT in Tripura, NSCN-IM in Nagaland, UNLF & PREPAK in Manipur, NDFB & ULFA in Assam are few of the Insurgency Groups. But, Now-a-days the Government of the respective States with the combined help of BSF, Assam Rifles & Military Army has carried out many rescue operations & made many of this Tribal Insurgency Groups to bow down their arms. Now, slowly peace is retaining in the mystical lands of North-East India & I presume the day is not so far when this Incredible NorthEast shall not remain unexplored..!!!
