Introduction

Student Library Management System (SLMS) gives us the complete information about the library. We can enter the record of new books and retrieve the details of books available in the library. We can issue the books to the students and maintain their records and can also check how many books are issued and stock available in the library. Also, we can maintain the late fine of students who returns the issued books after the due date. The focus has been on presenting information and comments in a user friendly manner.

Purpose

The SLMS will replace and enhance the current capabilities of commercially available Library Management Systems , as well as add new functionality. The purpose of this application are as follows : 1.The software is for automation of library. 2.It provides following facilities to: i. Operator- can enter details related to a particular book and provide membership to members. ii. User- can issue books under the supervision of the Operator iii. Administration- can read and write information about any member and update, create, delete the record of membership as per requirement.

Scope
Any education institute can make use of it for providing information about author, content of the available books. It can be used in offices and modifications can be easily done according to requirements.

The SLMS facilitates the management of Library services, programs, and policies. Analyzing the Library collection and its use by the users. Analyzing branch capacity and optimal distribution of the collection. Analyzing the demographics and interests of the users. Analyzing staff productivity and workflow. Tracking and verifying financial transactions.

Assumptions
This application is a manual application. Customized data will be used in this application. User does not have right to enter information about books.

Membership based on the association with the organisation. Keeps the track of issues and submission of books.

Operating Environment

SLMS supports the need of a large, multiplebranch library system. The system must support a library system with 50 locations, 20 million circulations, purchasing and processing over 500,000 items per year. It is highly desirable that searches and reports can be processed during open hours without disrupting other system functions. SLMS shall be accessible through a Windows compatible client.

Hardware and Software Requirement

Software Requirement SLMS shall operate on a Linux or Solaris server. Microsoft Access Hardware Requirement Hard Disk - 160 GB RAM - 512 MB

Design Implementation and Constraint

Design Implementation: SLMS shall use a fully relational database back-end. Constraint: User rights and privileges will be controlled through security groups that allow access control for users.
