Hitler's Childhood.

Adolf Hitler was born April 20th, 1889, the fourth of six children to Alois Hitler and Klara Polzl in the small Austrian town of Braunau near the German border. Both Hitler's parents had come from poor peasant families. Hitler did extremely well at primary school and it appeared he had a bright academic future in front of him. He was also popular with other pupils and was much admired for his leadership qualities. He was also a deeply religious child and for a while considered the possibility of becoming a monk.

Competition was harder in the larger secondary school and his response to not being top of the class was to stop trying and caring. His father was anger because he hoped that Hitler would follow his steps and join the Austrian civil service when he left school. However, Hitler was a stubborn child and attempts by his parents and teachers to change his attitude towards his school work were unsuccessful.

After his mother's death, Hitler moved to Vienna, hoping to become an artist. He had an orphan's pension, and worked as an illustrator of houses and grand buildings. He applied to the Vienna school of art twice, but was rejected. He lost his pension in 1910, but by then he had inherited some money from an aunt. After the money her inherited ran out Hitler lived in hostels for homeless people.

Early Adulthood
It was during his years in Vienna that Hitler began turning into an active antiSemite. Viennese, at the time didnt care for Jewish people either, and , AntiSemitism was already deeply instilled in the Austrian Catholic culture that Hitler was raised in. From them Hitler acquired the belief in the superiority of the "Aryan race" which formed the basis of his political views. Ultimately Hitler came to believe that the Jews were the natural enemies of the "Aryans" and were also responsible for Germany's economic problems.

World War I
In 1913, Hitler moved to Munich to avoid military service in the Austro-Hungarian army. The Austrian army later arrested him and gave him a physical examination. Found unfit for service, he was allowed to return to Munich. But in August 1914 when the Germany entered World War I, he enlisted himself in it.

Nazi Party
In July 1919, Hitler, because of his intelligence and skills, was appointed a V-Mann of an "Enlightenment Commando" for the purpose of influencing other soldiers with the same ideas and was assigned by Headquarters to infiltrate a small nationalist party, the German Workers' Party.

In 1920, Hitler was discharged from the army. After this he began to take full part in the party's activities. He soon became its leader and changed its name to the National Socialist German Workers Party (basically the Nazi Party)

Mein Kampf (My Struggle)

Hitler decided to attempt to seize power in Munich, the capital of Bavaria. The Nazis marched from a beer hall to the War Ministry, hoping to overthrow Bavaria's separatist government and then march to Berlin, but the army stopped them and Hitler was arrested. Hitler was tried for high treason and in April 1924 he was sentenced to five years in prison.
