Comparative Perception of mess food vis--vis dhabas

Case Background
The IIFT mess serves 260 students including both first and second year Students frequently visit the dhabas outside the college due to their dislike to mess food Poor response for the new scheme of 1800 for 4 meals or 1200 for 2 meals This led to the need to identify the various reasons for not taking the mess food

About the study

Students of IIFT conducted a comparative study of both IIFT and the dhabas To find out factors that could improve mess for the benefit of the student community A qualitative research was undertaken in finding out the attributes which could be used in the questionnaire Questionnaire was emailed to 260 students out of which only 45 responses came

Hypothesis

H0: There is no significance difference between the mess food and dhaba food.

H1: There is a significant difference between the mess food and dhaba food.

Critical value:- T value at 5% level of significant with 44 df: 2.015

Question 1

By using a paired sample t test, identify the parameters on which the dhaba food has an edge over the mess food. You may use a 5% level of significance.

Based on the results obtained, what are your recommendations?

Recommendations

Taste: Mess food needs lot of improvement. Menu: Mess should come up with more varieties in the

menu. Cost: Mess should bring their cost down to attract more students. Quality of Ingredients: Mess should enhance its quality of ingredients for getting an edge over Dhaba. Hygiene: Mess should increase its hygiene conditions as it is not up to students expectation. Service: Mess is doing well in its service quality, but again it can improve on this as its not satisfactory.

Ambience: Mess is far better than Dhaba, so theres no issue here.


Nutrition: Mess food is high in nutrition than

Dhaba food. Timings: Mess should increase their timings. They should come up with 24*7 mess. Total time taken: This attribute is not very clear as it is overlapping with Service time.
