PRISM BI SOFTWARE WALK THROUGH

It

involve three steps from your raw data to powerful BI without any programming. After installing Prism, the first step is to use the Prism ElastiCube Manager to import source data files, connect to cloud data sources and/or to any ODBC-compliant database. 5/22/12

Step 1: Get the Data:-

Prism

will intelligently link data with shared fields, and you may further specify relationships among the data sources using a user-friendly graphical interface. result is a self-contained compressed data repository called an ElastiCube. data and new data sources can be instantly added to 5/22/12

Step

2: Design Queries, Dashboards, Reports, etc.

Once an ElastiCube has been created, the Prism BI Studio is used to create, manage and share interactive reports, dashboards and guided analytics applications using only a graphical user interface, and without the need for programming knowledge or database 5/22/12 management skills.

Step

3: Publish and Share

Dashboards, reports and analytical applications can be easily published to any number of users in the organization.
Everything

runs off the server, there is never a need to send large data files from user to user. intelligence dashboards, 5/22/12 reports and data may also be

TECHNOLOGICAL BREAKTHROUGH BEHIND PRISM 1. Columnar Data Storage:Prism stores all the data it processes in ElasticCube data repositories, which are columnbased data stores containing the unified data of all combined data sources. The primary advantage of columnar data storage is very fast access to the specific fields 5/22/12

Just-in-Time In-Memory Processing Prism performs all query processing on data which is loaded into memory only when it is needed for a query. This approach provides query processing which is exponentially faster than typical systems, which access data 5/22/12 stored on disk.

Elastic

Data Structure

Prism's data storage and handling is based on an "elastic data structure," which essentially means that the database schema is changed automatically and on the fly, whenever required.
The

user can instantly add new data sources, new tables or new fields at any time. 5/22/12

SELECTING A DATA SOURCE

Bring

up the Data Source Creation Wizard, by navigating to Data->New Connection. to an Excel file by clicking on Excel and selecting the desired file.

Connect

5/22/12

1 Connect to a worksheet or a Named Range 2 The name of the worksheet or Named Range 3 When connecting to a worksheet, import data from the entire sheet 4 When connecting to a worksheet, import data from an explicit range 5/22/12 5 Use the first row in the data as names of fields

TO ADD/REMOVE A DATA SOURCE

To

add or remove a Data Source for an existing connection, navigate to the Data->Manage Connections menu and bring up the Manage Connections window.

The Data Browser

The

Data Browser is the main tool for browsing and managing a Data Source. It is located on the left hand side of the main application window. The higher nodes in the
Data Browser represent Dimensions. The icon next to the Dimensions name indicates the type of Members it contains:

The

Measures node holds all the Measures currently defined for the Data Source. name of the Measure is typically made up of the defined aggregation and the field it applies to, such as Average Sales, Sum Cost, etc

OVERVIEW TO WIDGETS
Widgets

are used to visualize data, perform actions and accept input from users. When you hover over a Widget with the mouse, the Widget Toolbar will appear.

Single Value Indicators

Single

Value Indicators that visualize a single value. Some indicators allow configuration of colored range thresholds, to better visualize when the indicator value is between predefined limits.

Selectors

are Widgets that are used to make selections that affect queries in other Widgets.

Connecting a Widget to Another Widget

Having

the selection in one Widget affect the results in a different Widget is a very powerful feature. allows creation of interactive dashboards where end-users can easily specify filters on the data they are looking at. data-bound Widget has a dedicated button for getting its 5/22/12

ElastiCubes
ElastiCubes

are high performance data stores optimized for fast query response. ElastiCubes allow you to bring in data from multiple sources, merge, manipulate and then query it as if it was one consolidated data set. an ElastiCube is just like a big table. It is made up of fields where each value in one 5/22/12 field has a corresponding value in

Conceptually,

The

data for an ElastiCube can come from one source, multiple sources or even from multiple phyiscal locations. example, the image below defines an ElastiCube with 24 fields. The data for the ElastiCube originates from three tables: PurchaseOrderHeader (11 fields), Employee (11 fields) and 5/22/12 EmployeeAddress (4 fields).

For

5/22/12

You

may have noticed that the total number of fields at the source is 26 yet the number of fields in the ElastiCube was said to be 24. is because the three tables have a shared field. The three connected lines, called relationships, indicate that EmployeeID field - which exists in 5/22/12 all three tables - is in fact the

ElastiCube Use Cases

ElastiCubes

are most useful when one or more of the following is true:

1. Large amounts of data need to be analyzed 2. Data for analysis originates from multiple disparate sources.

Building an ElastiCube
Building

is the process where the ElastiCube is materialized. The build process goes over the tables, fields and relationships defined in the ElastiCube project and materializes the ElastiCube accordingly.
