Nanotechnology in Neuroscience

-Ramya Rallabandi -Syeda Subuhi Siraj

Nanotechnology?
It is the technology development at the atomic, molecular and macromolecular range of approximately 1 100 nanometers to create and use structures, devices and systems that have novel or superior properties

Basic Neuroscience

Nano Neuro knitting

During a brain injury, neurons get disconnected and impulses do not flow.
Reconnects the disconnected parts of the brain

Self assembling nano peptide material

This material flows around the wound edges and seals the gap and provides an environment for the axons to go through the center of the cut

NEURAL INTERFACE

Melding man and machine to free the paralyzed and give a new way to communicate.

Thoughts could actually turn into actions

These are single-walled carbon nanotubes which pick up impulses within millions of neurons. Implanted directly on the cortex Sends them to a computer which analyses the pattern and strength of the signal to move the robotic arm

Brain implants
They are the

interfaces created between neural systems and microchips to mend dysfunctions.

Brain gate
Computer chip implanted into the brain monitors
brain activity and converts the intention of the user into computer commands.

Clinical neuroscience

Parkinsons disease
Parkinson's disease is a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system in which control over the body movements is

lost .

Inject molecules

that are designed to self-assemble into nanostructures in the spinal tissue, to rescue and regrow rapidly damaged neurons.

The nanofibers thousands of times thinner than a human hair not only prevent the formation of harmful scar tissue which inhibits spinal cord healing, but also stimulate the body into regenerating lost or damaged cells

Alzheimers disease
It is a progressive degeneration of brain tissue. Intellectual functions such as memory, comprehension and speech deteriorate.
Nerve fibres grow tangled (neurofibrillary tangles)

protein deposits known as plaques build up in the brain

the nano particulate drug carriers not only overcome the BBB (Blood Brain Barrier) but also deliver into the target cells in the brain.
