Console Application

A console application is a computer program designed to be used via a text-only computer interface, such as a text terminal, the command line interface of some operating systems (Unix, DOS, etc.

Host Name

A hostname is the nickname that is given to a device connected to a computer network

Physical Address

When referring to computers in general or computer memory, the physical address is the computer memory address of a physical hardware device. Sometimes refer to as MAC (Media Access Control) Address

IP Address

An Internet Protocol address (IP address) is a numerical label assigned to each device (e.g., computer, printer) participating in a computer network that uses the Internet Protocol for communication.

Subnet Mask

An IP address has two components, the network address and the host address. A subnet mask separates the IP address into the network and host addresses. A Subnet mask is a 32-bit number that masks an IP address, and divides the IP address into network address and host address

Default Gateway

In computer networking, a gateway is a node (a router) on a TCP/IP network that serves as an access point to another network. A default gateway is the node on the computer network that the network software uses when an IP address does not match any other routes in the routing table.

DNS(Domain name Service) server

Internet Service Providers, also known as ISPs, generally provide access to DNS servers. A DNS server is a web server that provides guidance information for outgoing information requests. In addition, it provides detailed information for any website hosted locally, when it receives an incoming information request. DNS servers maintain a constantly updated information storehouse, containing domain name resolution information about all web sites that users have accessed through them. This database updates each time a new information request is received, and the information is retrieved from the source server.

A root name server is a name server for the Domain Name System's root zone. It directly answers requests for records in the root zone and answers other requests. This limit has determined the number of name server installations at (currently) 13 clusters, serving the needs of the entire public Internet worldwide.

Static IP and DHCP


Static IP and DHCP are two very different ways of obtaining an IP address for your computer. DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) allows your computer to automatically obtain a fully functional IP address. Every time you boot up your computer, your operating system retrieves a new IP address. Static IP is a manual way of obtaining an IP address for your computer. The IP address is predetermined and always the same
