WHAT IS IPL?
DLF IPL commenced in 2008 as a fast paced cricketing format in a league format Initiated by BCCI A brain child of Lalit Modi, it was conceptualized keeping in mind the changing needs of the people for a more visually appealing entertainment package Started of with 8 teams initially and increased to 10 but later cut to 9 teams

WHAT IS SWOT?

IPL REVENUE MODEL

STRENGTHS
Brings different players of different countries on one platform. Retired Players who have no source on income start earning and contribute to the economic cycle Small and medium size companies have come to the forefront by sponsoring teams. Eg Matrix for KKR Short match durations enables multiple matches in single day generating more revenue Increasing development of hospitality sector

WEAKNESSES
Too many games in a season can make it monotonous resulting in declining interest & revenue Killing the original format of cricket. Travelling fans might get disheartened to travel. The cumulative effect of revenue are not showing enough ROI Disputes and political issues clouding IPL Unpredictability of players as an asset.

OPPORTUNITIES
Biggest platform for advertising and promoting different products or brands New cities, new teams as potential customers and revenue increasing source. International advertisers a catch. More & more infrastructure development possible Apparel brands sponsoring teams can increase revenue in the form of jersey sales.

OPPORTUNITIES
Train younger unknown players, save auction money Allow players from non test playing nations to play like Bermuda, Ireland etc Introducing a transfer law just like football.

THREATS
Prone to controversies match fixing Fan following base as a revenue source Advertisers and sponsors under threat when teams exit Fast market movement excessive reliability on stability which is not there. Clash with TV serials. Hence the viewership goes down

THREATS
Temptation to cheat with all the money involved Unavailability of television sets, decline interests Competition from rival leagues like Big Bash league, Sri Lanka Premier league etc. Pulling out of individual country cricket boards might lead to prominent players withdrawing Glamour Factor

GENERAL INFERENCE
India a cricket crazy nation Declining viewership but increasing revenue BCCI too strong a body to fail Cricket fiesta plays with peoples memory Give it time and watch it bloom Excellent platform for SMEs
