OBJECTIVE

TO SHARE WITH YOU AND EXPLAIN THE JOB ACCOMPLISHED IN

RTR J24 (CCR) TO LOAD AND OFFLOAD THE CATALYST BY USING SAUDI ARAMCO DEMAG CRANE 250T INSTEAD OF THE LIEBHEER CRANE 400T THAT RTR USUALLY RENT FROM LOCAL

CONTRACTOR TO PERFORM THIS JOB.

Northern Refining

Plant J24 (Continuous Catalyst Regenerator

Starts on 1997 and Processes 40,000 BPD hydrotreated naphtha. The Plant is normally scheduled for T&I every two years.

One of the major task during the T&I was to load and
off-load the Catalyst.

At that time, I was assigned as 50T Crane Operator to

perform minor T&I tasks.

ONE WEEK LATER

400 Ton liebheer Crane Contracted from Razyiat was

in the Plant Site.

A question was raised what is the purpose for this

huge crane.

The question was answered to me by the T&I Director,

saying the crane is rented to load and offload the Plant Catalyst.

How Aramco rented a crane to do such job which could be performed by one of the high technology owned crane in safest, cost, and time effective manner.

MY FINDING Using DEMAG 250 Ton Load Chart RADIUS = 32 METER BOOM LENGTH = 97.6 METER CRANE CAPACITY = 3.4 TON

At that Time:

Job was done within 5 days

by the contracted crane due to earlier agreement with RTR

ONE MONTH LATER AFTER THE T&I

Plant J24 had a malfunctions

and R&HED was consulted to do this Job as the proposed lift was approved by the Refinery Personnel and Crane Operation Foremen.
