WHAT IS TEAM WORK?

Ego According to Websters dictionary teamwork is defined as a joint action by a group of people, in which each person subordinates his or her individual interest and opinion to the unity and efficiency of the group. Effective and efficient team work goes beyond individual achievement. When members harmonize the contribution and work towards a common goal, best result are produced.

Avoid ambiguity when clarifying goal If goals are unclear, efforts can be misdirected results in not optimized and wrong performance Give freedom and authority to develop own frame work to achieve best possible result .

Maintain uniformity in individual and team goal. Efforts should retain till the achievement of organizational goal Should provide a climate which is open, comfortable, puts members at ease. Members should know what is expected from them and what kind of performance standards they must exhibit in order to fulfill the demand of the organization.

What sort of team worker are you? There are many different types of team workers... Can you see yourself in any of these characters?

A good team consists of all different types of characters.

Belbin Team roles


Dr Meredith Belbin came up with a way to identify team roles.
He says that each Team Role has its particular strengths and allowable weaknesses, and each has an important contribution to make to a team. Very few people display characteristics of just one Team Role. Most people have 3 or 4 preferred roles, which can be adopted or eschewed as the situation requires.

TEAM ROLE: BELBINS DEFINITION

A tendency to behave, contribute and interrelate with others in a particular way.


Belbin identified nine clusters or groups of behaviour termed as team roles.

Description Well-organized and predictable. Takes basic ideas and makes them work in practice. Can be slow. Lots of energy and action, challenging others to move forwards. Can be insensitive. Reliably sees things through to the end, ironing out the wrinkles and ensuring everything works well. Can worry too much and not trust others. Solves difficult problems with original and creative ideas. Can be poor communicator and may ignore the details. Sees the big picture. Thinks carefully and accurately about things. May lack energy or ability to inspire others. Has expert knowledge/skills in key areas and will solve many problems here. Can be disinterested in all other areas. Respected leader who helps everyone focus on their task. Can be seen as excessively controlling. Cares for individuals and the team. Good listener and works to resolve social problems. To achieve the best balance, there should be: One Coordinator or Shaper (not both) for leader A Plant to stimulate ideas A Monitor/evaluator to maintain honesty and clarity One or more Implementer, Team worker, Resource investigator or Completer/finisher to make things happen

Advertisement can be used to emphasize either the physiological benefits of a product, such as its nutritional value, or its convenience as a means of satisfying these needs. A food or drink manufacturer marketing a luxury product may however find that, rather than appeal to the physiological need for food and drink, it is preferable to identify his product with the satisfaction one of Maslows higher needs.
