PABLO PICASSO

Born October 25,1881 in Malaga, Spain.

Picassos full name is Pablo Diego Jose Francisco de Paula Juan Nepormuceno Maria de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santisima Trinidad Clito Ruiz y Picasso. Born to Dona Maria Picasso y Lopez and Don Jose Ruiz Blasco.
His father was a painter and an art teacher.

Young Life
AS a young child Picasso displayed a talent for drawing. So his Father began to teach him to draw and paint.
At 13, Picassos paintings were better executed than that of his Father

Pablo was a bad student who when learned to draw lost all favor in homework.
At 14 He and his parents moved to Barcelona. Where he immediately applied to the School of Fine Arts.

Picasso was admitted immediately for his extraordinary exam, But soon skipped class to draw and paint the streets of Barcelona.
At 16 Picasso went to attend the Royal Academy of San Fernando. Soon though he grew board with their singular focus

Blue Period
Moved to Paris to open own studio. Critics broke down Picassos adult career into periods. From 1901-1904 was known as his blue period. After the death of his close friend Carlos Casagemas, he only painted scenes of poverty, isolation and anguish.

It is called the blue period because Picasso used mostly blues and greens.
Famous paintings from this time are Blue Nude, La Vieand, The Old Guitarist, all three paintings completed in 1903 The Old Guitarist, Pablo Picasso 1903

Rose Period
In 1905 Picasso fell in love with a model named Ferrnande Olivier. In this period that lasted only a year he used beiges, pinks, and reds. His most famous paintings from this period are Family at Saltimbanques, Gertrude Stein and Two Nudes. In 1907 Picasso painted a painting which greatly influenced the direction of art for the twentieth century. Les Demoiselles dAvignon is considered the precursor and inspiration of Cubism. From 1918-1927 Picasso went back to a realism in career. From this time. Three Women at the Spring, Two women Running on the Beach/The Race and The Pipes of Pan

From 1927 Picasso got caught up in Surrealism. One of the greatest paintings of all time came from this period which was completed in 1937 in the mist of the Spanish civil war. German bombers, carried out an attack on the town of Guernica.
Picasso painted Guernica the testament to the horrors of war in black, whites, and grays. Guernica remains one of the most moving and powerful antiwar paintings in history.

During his time as a painter Picasso married twice. The first a ballerina named Olga khokhlova in 1918, nine years later they parted ways. He married again at 67 to Jacqueline Roque. Picasso had four children Paul, Maya, Claude and Paloma. Picasso passed away April 8, 1973 at the age of 91. Picasso is still the most celebrated and influential painter of the twentieth century.
