About this series
Justin prepares for an arbitration hearing to decide if he’ll die as a result of being a Kivosh. He begins to discover the power of the alien language he’s learning.
Justin is then subjected to PCP charges of being a Kivosh and is able to convince the Arbitrator that the charges are based upon conclusions, not facts. The PCP then charges that Justin is in possession of banned technology, specifically anti-gravitation.
Justin produces the math that he supposedly used to produce his own anti-gravitational device. Justin is then cleared of the charges against him.
The Arquellian Arbitrator then tells Justin, privately, that the Arquellians need to recover a stolen manuscript. The Arquellian won’t describe the manuscript, but basically tells Justin, 'Recover the manuscript or die.' Justin does manage to get the information that the manuscript the Arquellians seek is in the possession of the Priests of Vorell.
With no real choice in the matter, Justin then returns to Alvero, where he and Ashoro once failed to gain the manuscript that is obviously what the Arquellians want. Justin talks to the High Priest and convinces the High Priest that the Arquellians will soon raid the Temple to gain the manuscript. The High Priest then agrees to give the manuscript to Justin if Justin can kill the High Priest in an unarmed combat duel, so that no one will know that Justin has the manuscript.
After he obtains the manuscript from a man willing to die to do his duty, Justin realizes that he needs to play the advanced cultures, one against the other, if he’s to survive. Justin manages to get Norva Lemni assigned as the PCP Ambassador to Fori Novor and Major Dakon Harkand, a Dorond Marine assigned as the Dorond Ambassador to Fori Novor. Justin may now survive.
Justin and the Major then plan for the possibility of a small scale attack from an Arquellian scout boat. The Arquellians don't dare risk a large scale attack, but might try a small scale attack. The small scale attack does come and Justin's forces repulse the attack. Justin then has three naked whores run from his palace. Supposedly the naked whores were driven in front of the cowardly Arquellian invaders.
In the aftermath of the Arquellian attack, Justin arranges for a show trial to be held in Mervon. The show trial is turned, by Justin, into a circus.
After the circus, a large colony ship is discovered. The colony ship is an Aozoran ship, headed to Corin, probably to join the Aozoran colony there. However, the colony ship won’t answer hail. A team needs to be sent to investigate. Justin is maneuvered into leading the team. It’s an obvious attempt to kill the Kivosh. Justin leads the team and survives the attempt to kill him.
When he returns to Fori Novor, Justin finds that drug smuggling into Averon is on the decline due to his sky pirates ripping off the deliver ships. Instead, the drugs are being warehoused in an island off the coast of Averon. Justin's troops raid the warehouses and steal the drugs.
Justin visits the islands of Aozora and begins to suspect that Lord Vorell may have been on Corin and may still be on Corin.
Justin also feels the need to upgrade the Fori Novor Air Force. Since Fori Novor doesn’t have a lot of money, Justin plots to steal the aircraft he needs.

- Second Chance: Sky Pirate
Glarney Fered has managed to assume a new identity as Jahn Loght. He has, under contract to the Primitive Culture Police, killed a dangerous criminal alien. The PCP wants to execute Jahn, because they know that he's a Kivosh and will try to acquire life force. Jahn escapes the PCP on a motorcycle and recruits hot looking Risha to hit a casino operation. Jahn plans the casino operation hit and he and Risha take a lot of money. Unfortunately, Risha dies during the burglary. Jahn then takes the long road and winds up with a lot of money in a large city. Jahn has money, but the PCP, the police and any number of criminals want to kill him. Jahn then tracks an exotic drug to the western city of Delfon. From Delfon, Jahn contacts alien suppliers, talks them out of killing him and even gets them to sell him anti-gravity units that the aliens must have to operate profitably in a planetary gravity well. Jahn begins to operate as 'the Devil.' The Devil delivers high quality product, using jockeys to fly the grav sleds he gets from the aliens. Needing still more product, Jahn begins to acquire product from his competitors by theft. The Devil's thefts start a drug war. The Devil then arranges to end the drug war, for a price. In order to end the drug war, Jahn has to shoot up an alien spacecraft and eject before it crashes. In a triumph of skill over stupidity, Jahn and his best pilot leave Jahn's suppliers rid of a very bad problem with another advanced culture, earn obscene amounts of money from the other product dealers and set up governmental level connections with the government of his criminal alien suppliers. Jahn then begins a large scale air piracy operation against other product suppliers. Only the Devil is getting through and yet another drug war starts. To keep a steady supply of product coming in, Jahn uses advanced civilization technology to begin a sky piracy operation against the large seagoing ships that are bringing the raw product into his country. In order to really conduct a sky piracy operation, Jahn needs a base. He finds the small impoverished island of Fori Novor. However, there is trouble on Fori Novor and Jahn needs a new King to stabilize things. The only real candidate for King is Jahn [now calling himself Justin Imperiale] and he has to kill anyone who gets in his way to wind up as King. King Justin then begins to run Fori Novor. He creates new jobs and forms agreements with the large country of Averon to allow Fori Novor to grow the spices that only grow in their climate. With the criminals gone, Justin also sets up a tourist business. The other nations of the planet Corin, where Justin lives then come to him with a problem. It appears that person or persons have been ripping off ship cargoes. Justin points out several solutions to the problems, as outlined. Finally the mighty tell Justin, that the cargoes are illegal drugs. Justin agrees to 'solve the problem.' Of course, Justine has no intent of solving the problem, since he's the problem. However, Justin manages to deflect the blame to others. The Kingdom of Fori Novor then faces invasion by sea from the major power of Zorran. Justin has two choices. He can use untried advanced technology at the risk of his life or let the PCP, the drug lords and/or various powerful governments in Corin kill him.

Three days a week, I am a Speech-Language Pathologist, primarily working with children with autism. On those days, I spend a lot of time running, playing trains, and sitting in kiddie chairs. In 2010, as my children reached a new level of independence, I began to write. My first book was well received. It gave me the confidence to write more, and I’ve been writing ever since. I write what has been described as a unique blend of thriller, suspense, and romance. Many of my characters have experienced trauma (e.g. traumatic blindness, autism, widowhood) and real-life scenarios are not something I shy away from, though I value a happy ending. The books appeal to those looking for a clear Christian message as well as those seeking hope in a dark world. I hope you’ll enjoy reading Forged in the Jungles of Burma, Assassin’s Trap, Reckless Association, Enemy by Association, Imperfect (also published as Lethal Intentions), and my latest offering, Coffee, Kamloops, and Copper Mine. Winner of the 2015 Next Generation Indie Book Awards and the 2013 Word Awards, D. C. Shaftoe lives in the Niagara Region of Ontario, Canada with her husband and two children.
