Globalization and de-globalization
In the article the author analyzes the recently appeared in the scientific literature the notion of
de-globalization. Hypothesis, according to which the unity of the ancient world in the era of the rise
of the Roman empire can be considered as globalization, within the limits of the geographical area
known in ancient times. Next, it is about the failure of globalization in the period prior to contemporary
globalization. Finally, we consider modern globalization and its her opposite strength.

The information society era of postmodernism
and the problems of media culture
In the article the author observes the interaction between two complicated open and flexible systems
society and multimedia culture. He reveals the characteristics of multimedia culture phenomenon in relation
to time (postmodernism) and place (innovative cultures of developed postindustrial societies). The author also
examines inner system-constituting factors of multimedia culture such as structure, functions and denotation, and
outer system-constituting factors which determine dynamics of development such as politics, economics, ideology
and scientific-technical achievements.

Part 3. Bibliographic activities in the Red Army (19181921)
During the period of 19171921 reached the unprecedented level recommendatory and bibliographic activities in the
Red Army, which became the prototype in many forms and methods of recommendatory bibliography in our country. New
ideas, especially socialist recommendatory bibliography proclaimed by the Bolsheviks and steadily pursued in life, have been
introduced in a bitter struggle with the old, educational views on the recommendatory bibliography, a desire to keep it out
of the political struggle. Apolitical leading bibliographers and librarians (L. B. Khavkina, N. A. Rubakin, A. A. Pokrovsky and
others) was subjected to sharp criticism from government officials culture. 19171921 were a period of creating high-quality
domestic ideologically recommendatory bibliography and characterized the transition from a broad non-enlightenment to
the conscious planting of socialist ideology, to address specific social problems, to substantiate the role of recommendatory
bibliography in socialist construction.

Problems creating an image of traditional libraries
in the electronic environment
Image of traditional libraries in the electronic environment develops under various circumstances both
dependent and independent of the libraries themselves. The most important measures that are in the competence
of the libraries themselves, is the creation of the library site. From the circumstances of the dependent library
activities only partly, in greatest significant is the phenomenon of blogging, that is initiative of different librarians
in their own pages, directed, in their opinion, to improve the representation of the libraries and library profession in
the public view. The independent factors of traditional libraries are allocated by competition from digital libraries,
ill Internet users in relation to conventional stacks and an abundance of pretty rough library humor, which is the
main repository of the World Network (comics, cartoons, jokes, etc.).

Organizational basis of the work of the university library:
a theoretical approach
This article presents the theoretical core of new institutionalism a theory used widely by the researchers
in politics, economics and sociology, though with only several attempts to adapt this theoretical approach
in librarianship. Three institutional pillars regulative, normative and cultural-cognitive are analyzed with
illustrations from the everyday work of academic libraries. It is suggested that sometimes unseen details like
cultural patterns and traditions as well as factors like regulative laws, professional associations and normative
pressures influence academic libraries and their direction of change.

Librarian educator: in the context of foundation orientations
of higher education paradigm variation
Foundation orientations as well as causative relations of space comprising the activity field of librarian
educator are set in publication. The activity field and its comprising spaces conceptually are defined using the Field
theory. Four essential formal spaces, comprising the activity field of librarian educator are identified, such as higher
educational institutions, academic libraries, learning centers and information literacy. Causative relations of activity
field as well as foundation orientations are analyzed in the context of higher education paradigm variation.

Up to the problem of reception of medieval traditions
in the art of XVII beginning of XVIII centuries
Medieval traditions in European culture of XVIIXVIII centuries assume a wide specter of interpretations from
the principal rejecting of this unaesthetic epoch to the complex system of treatment of medieval art heritage in
architectural theory and practice, in facade sculpture or churches and monastic cloisters, in painting and engraving,
depicting Gothic structures. The conception of Middle Ages, understood in the context of F. Braudels or Annales
school theory, permit to extend the chronological frames of the period and the stylistical characteristic of several
trends and schools, that helps to investigate the supplementary aspects of the topic when we study the reception
of traditions in culture of XVIIXVIII centuries. Modern medievistic validly examine the material connected with the
epochs of Barocco, Rococo and Classicism.

Empire style in Russia
Empire style is high classicism. It is in interior design where it was expressed at its most. The key motives of the
style are elements of ancient Roman ammunition eagle emblems, bundles of spears, shields, bundles of arrows,
lictors axes; Egyptian art, and Napoleon emblems Napoleon monogram, imperial crowns, bees (traditional
symbol of hardworking). Empire style was represented to the full in France and Russia. Typical element of furniture
decoration of this period is swan-like heads in armchairs and sofas.

The author of this article refers to the museums life in France of the 1930s, to its theory and practice. On the
material of the publications in the French periodicals of those years is carried out analysis of the main tendencies of
museum work of this period. Thinking about the museum, researchers often concerned the issues and the special

Acquisition by museums and the reshaping of industrial monuments
ofarchitecture on the example of malting plant Bavaria
Building malting plant Bavaria in Petrovsky Island was built in a constructive and functional style in the early XXth century.
This industrial monument is a unique building, that combines innovative design trends in the construction and application of new
materials for its time, not the traditional form and style. Saving malt buildings could become a symbol of renewal of industrial
buildings of St. Petersburg, which made possible a new era. Modern art ideas are seeking his incarnation in the monuments of
the past, and the use of factory buildings of the past, which have the status of cultural property is an important stimulus for the
development of creative potential. Following current trends, where industrial buildings are transformed into art objects, and
become commercial projects this is the right vector conversion of industrial buildings in St. Petersburg, including for malting
plant Bavaria. In this case, the proposed conversion of the malt house in the center of the tasting, the project Peter Malt.

Siana cups by the C Painter and vase-painters of his circle
in the State Hermitage Museum: to the question of attribution and dating
The article deals with the problem of attribution and dating of whole cups and fragments from the collection
of the State Hermitage Museum, which we can classify as the Siana cups (one of the types of the Athenian blackfigured cups of the 6th century BC). Thanks to the publications by H. A. G. Brijder, who has elaborated the questions
of classification, dating and attribution of cups of this type, we can now specify attribution and dating of some
published already cups and fragments from the Hermitage collection, as well as to define in the archaeological
collections of the museum some unknown earlier items, which can be attributed to The C Painter, the Taras Painter,
The Malibu Painter and others from the circle of The C Painter.

To a question on methodology and terminology
of the description of applied art objects
The museology current state as science differs steadfast attention to problems of terminology and
methodology of the description of a museum subject. Correctly to name object, to designate technics and a
manner of its execution means to understand its material and sign function. The exact description of applied
art objects, including its decorative elements, is a necessary condition of the attribution and the registration of
museum monuments.

Verbal collecting in the ancient world:
the profession, way of life, the literary genre
Sources both important for history of museums and for libraries form of activity as drawing up of catalogs are
traced in antiquity since the Homere, becoming the verbal collecting as version of ecphrasis descriptions of works
of art. However, the soures, which have reached us, allow to draw a conclusion that ecphrasis was only a version
more a wide range of employment of antique intellectuals, expanding to the extensive arches of descriptions of all
known monuments, unusual natural phenomena, representatives of an animal and flora, works of art, techniques
and craft achievements. At that the special form of the description of subjects springs up, when their real existence
had no value thus is born, and the author made to itself an invented visual number, designing a certain ideal museum on which the reader was drove.

Robinson Crusoe. Adventure sailor from York, or the novel-museum
In the Enlightenment there is a museum as a social institution, due to the birth of a special paradigm of the
Age of Reason. Views at the world and man acquire the specific character because of geographic and scientific
discoveries. The world becomes a laboratory, workshop, book and museum. Reflection of the museums type of
consciousness can be found in the novel D. Defoe Robinson Crusoe, which shows the stratification of subjects,
the hierarchy of meanings of various phenomena. The author compares the two heroes Robinson by English
writer and Robinson by French writer today, Michel Tournier. Like a museum, art space in the novels is set pattern of
existence of the Universe.

Some results of research on the history
of the university education in St. Petersburg
Since 1983, there has been a debate among scholars about the founding of the first Russian university. The
debate began with a publication in the weekly newspaper Leningrad University. That publication called the
date of 1819 as the founding of the St. Petersburg University into question. The authors Jury D. Margolis and
GrigoryA.Tishkin reconsidered the founding date and showed that the true date of the first Russian university is
1724. The article summarizes the results of their historical study of university education in St. Petersburg and lists
the names of those who support their findings.

On the Christian name of the kievan prince Askold
Naming of the kievan prince Askold as Nicholas after the Holy Baptism is considered as quite convincing
supposition very often. But the historiographical analysis demonstrates that this conjecture was formulated firstly
by Vasiliy Tatishchev in the 18th century and its only reason was dedication of the church at the Askolds grave to
St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. But the most probable date of the primary building of this church (the late 11th
century) forces us to reject this argument for the hypothesis about Askold-Nicholas.

To the question of the tempory of the foundation
of the real independence of Greco-Bactria
During the Second Syrian war (the middle of the IIIrd century) between Seleucids and Lagids Bactria became an independent
state ruled by Seleucid satrap Diodotus. After his death during the reign of his son Diodotus II Bactria provided an independent
policy and declined a treaty with Parthia. This anti-Seleucid alliance was impossible for local Greek elite and Diodotus II was
killed by Eutydemus, a Greek from Magnesia, who was admitted by Antiochus III as a king (206 BC).
