RECONSIDERING AN OLD DISPUTE

The paper presents a brief review of the controversy on Christianity and paganism in Beowulf, noticing
the fundamental difference of the approach between Russian and English-speaking scholars, and offers a
novel method of solving the problem, based on statistics of word usage in the text of the poem.
