GRAMMAR
The Focus of This Lesson is Asking Questions that Begin with "Where"
Куд а вы ле т ит е ?
"Where are you flying?"
You probably know that to ask, "where do you live" you use гд е , as in, Где ты живёшь?
However, the boarding desk assistant doesn't ask Kevin, Где вы летите? Instead, she asks,
Куда вы летите? So what's the difference between "гд е " and "куд а?"

Куда вы едете? "Where are you going?"
As you can see, you use гд е to ask where something is situated. You use куд а to ask about
the direction of movement, and we usually use this word with verbs of movement (идти,
ехать, лететь, etc.).
Please note: If you have где in the question, you use the prepositional case.
For example:
Just to remind you, we mainly use the prepositional case to say where something is located
(after the prepositions в and на). Singular nouns in the prepositional case usually end in -e.
For example:
1. Я работаю в школе.
"I work at school."
2. Я живу в Лондоне.
"I live in London."
If you have куда in the question, you use the accusative case.
For example:
To remind you:

In the accusative case, the ending doesn't change for masculine, neuter, or plural nouns.
However, it does change for feminine nouns:
Please, note that the rules are different for animate nouns (people or animals).

Где живёт Сергей? Он живёт в Киеве. "Where does Sergey live? He lives in Kiev."
CULTURAL INSIGHT
Be On Time in Russia!
Like in many other countries, Russians consider being late for work or a meeting
unprofessional and impolite. However, people are often late to meet a date or friends. If
someone invites you to a party, you should try to come on time, unlike in the USA.
