Vadim Maximov
Tragic Form in Theatre of Velimir Khlebnikov
In series of articles this author has researched evolution of the tragic form in
modernist art of the 20th century. The object of this paper is Russian futurism.
Complicated structure of futuristic drama includes tragic and tragicomic aspects
as its important part that is associated with the modernistic principles of the new
theatre art. This paper provides elaborate analysis of the play Maids God (Devy

Objects of research are first experiences of the reconstruction of the classical dramatic
performance based on the ancient Latin plays provided by Italian humanists in the

made sufficient impact in dramatic art of the Renaissance.

Founders of the Jesuit theatre
Subject of this research is the earliest period in history of the theatre of schools
in Jesuit colleges in Western Europe in the second half of the 16th century. From
1550s the performances arranged by faculty of colleges become significant factor
in development of dramatic art in many countries. During that period Jesuit
theatre did not follow strict regulations, development of its tendencies relied
much on the personal intentions of the playwrights and directors namely
Pedro Pablo de Acevedo in Spain, L. La Cruz in Portugal, Bernardino Stefonio in
Italy et al. European researchers published documents of that theatre and texts
of plays on the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, so it is possible now to
research the artistic features of performances in Jesuit schools in 15501600s
and to understand interaction of that performances with professional art of this
period.

The rebel god in Prometheus bound by Aeschylus
The article analyses the Greek text of Prometheus bound by Aeschylus.
Some distortions in the translation by Adrian Piotrovsky are indicated. Following
the ideological dogma, he transforms a vulgar demagogue in a cultural hero and

benefactor of mankind. The tragedy, considered as an analysis of Prometheus

pretensions to know the laws of the Fate, reveals their falsity both on the practical
and theoretical level. Prometheus is presented as the creator of the philosophy
of fraud that generated the most sinister ideologies. Inspiring to the man blind
hopes, Prometheus puts himself in the place of the Fate and the gift of fire
becomes the gift of eternal slavery.

women soloist performing art of the nangyar-kuttu
Nangyar kuttu (or kuthu) is the soloist narration of Sri Krishnas life by a female
character in the Kudiyattam style. Nowadays womens creativity in Kudiyattam
is increasing in different ways and actresses have taken in charge the revival of
female characters on stage and thus have varying their representations. Since the
first performance on a secular stage in 1986, nangyar kuttu has been known in India
and abroad as a solo performance for women in the shape of a sanscrit plays single
episode. Nangiar kuttu is almost becoming a separate form, detached from
Kudiyattam.

It is the first publication of the short hand record of the lecture on Vsevolod
Meyerhold by Leonid Vivien of February 6, 1957 from the archives of the library
of St.Petersburg branch of Russian Theatre Union. The lecture tells about the
period of Meyerholds work at Alexandrinsky Theatre, Vivien gives his overview
of Meyerholds art of stage directing and impact of his ideas for the Russian
and world theatre. Introduction and comments tell us about Viviens early life
in theatre, about his relations in life and in creative work with Meyerhold. This
publication is devoted to 125th anniversary of Leonid Vivien.
