Indicator (Optional) Measurement of exhaust temperature Gf should be within an extent of the corresponding recorded value by shop trail prior to delivery of engine.) Pmax and exhaust temperature Pmax and exhaust temperature vary according to various conditions, but they show the follow- ing tendencies. Thus taking these into consideration, confirm presence or absence of abnorma- lity. (1) Relation between Pmax and suction temperature As room temperature rises, Pmax drops; as room temperature drops conversely, Pmax rises, Thus, Pmex and room temperature are inversely related to each other, and for a change in room temperature by 3°C, Pmax shows a tendency of inverse change by 1 kg/cm?. (2) Relation between room temperature and exhaust temperature Exhaust temperature changes at the rate of about twice the room temperature change. However, fouling of turbo-charger and suction & exhaust lines, exhaust pressure, kind of fuel oil used, etc. as well as fouling of hull and propeller and so forth in case of a marine main engine might exert some influences on this relation; thus it is not necessarily that changes mentioned so far take place. In any case, it is necessary to operate the engine with its servicing and load feduction so that the engine can be used within the following Emits: 6-8 1981.10.23 @ S165 Usage Limits of Engine by Model (At room temperature 20°C) ‘Exhaust gas temperature at turbocharger inlet peer iorat Explosion pressure max) [Recommended (Normal) “Limit S165ST 128 kglem? Stopping In the case of an engine of automatic start & stop specifications, you can not execute the following items at the time of every stopping. Thus, it is suggested to carry out these items in confirmity with conditions of use of the engine as you think fit. 1) Except in case of emergency stop, continue operation of engine without load (at 500 ~ 700 mpm or at the rated speed of revolution in the case of a generator driving engine) for about ten minutes, 2) Set the starter switch of instrument panel in the “OFF” position. 3) Set the engine stop handle in the “STOP” position to stop the engine. 4) Tum the battery switch “OFF”. 5) After stopping of engine, open the indicator cock (decomp. valve), and discharge gas from inside the combustion chamber while turing the flywheel. 6) When the engine comes to a stop, be sure to operate the lub. oil priming pump to cool various parts sufficiently. (In the case the motor priming pump is equipped, it is ideal to operate the priming pump for about ten minutes.) At this time also confirm the absence of abnormal sound as much as practicable while turning the flywheel, 7) Correct the leaking places of various parts confirmed during running. 8) Open the drain cock of suction manifold to discharge drain therefrom, 9) If there is the possibility of freezing in the winter, discharge engine cooling water after the engine cools down. Fuel Oi {As the fuel oil for this engine, the Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) K-2205 Class 1 No. 2 (general- ly known as the A heavy oil) is appropriate. However, this standard covers a considerably wide range of oils, some of which is inappropriate for use in a diesel engine. Therefore, it is preferable to select the suitable fuel oil according to specifications listed in the following table, Table 7-1. Recommended Fuel Oil Properties Residual Carbon Content Viscosity Cetane | Pour (Centistokes] Redwood | Number| Point (St) | No.t (see) Kind Ce) | (@t 50°C) | (at 10°F) Co) | (ot. | (wt. %) | (we. %) | (901. 9) x heavy | Neutral |>60 | 35~8 | 37~58 |35~45)<-5| <07 | <003) <12 | <01 fuelol Reference: JIS Class 1 No.2 heavy fuel oil, ASTM D975 diesel fuel ol No.4-D, BS2869 Class BI equivalent, Ash | Sulphur | Moisture Content | Content | Content Notes: In case of the cetane number of exceeding 45, a consideration should be given that the oil having the residual carbon content of less than 0.5 % is to be used. Moreover, if fuel oil of inferior quality is used, the color of exhaust gas might become bad; the exhaust valve and its valve seat, fuel pump, fuel injection valve, etc. will be damaged; and the cylinder liner, piston, piston rings, ete. will be wom out earlier. It is, therefore, necessary to select a good quality fuel oil as much as possible. In case the color of exhaust gas becomes bad or carbon flower appears at the tip of fuel injection valve in relatively short time, despite the absence of out of order of any part of the fuel oil system, have a try at change of fuel oil as a measure. 7-2, Lud. Oil Selection of lub. oil is very important for operating a diesel engine because if inappropriate tub. oil is used, it causes the sticking of piston rings and the seizure and earlier abrasion of piston, cylinder liner, bearings, etc, For lub. oil of this engine, use New API Service Grade CD lub. oil. As for properties of lub. oil, it is preferable to select the suitable lub. oil, aiming nearly at values mentioned in the following table. Table 7-2. In such case, itis necessary to change wholly the oil in use with new oil. Although criterion for changing this oil in use could not be determined indiscriminately ac- cording to its using time along because there is a difference in operating conditions of engine from one engine to the next, an instance of guide is given below. However, we recommend you to request £0 your lub. oil supplier to do property analysis of Iub. oil in use and then to ‘pass a judgment whether this lub. oil can be used continuously or not for you. Besides, if you choose to a simple method of judgment, such a spot test kid which furnishes you with such information as residual total alkali value, degree of contamination, cleaning dispersion, ete. is available from the most of oil suppliers. Thus, your purchase and employment of such test kid are also suggested. By the way, in case neither of the aforementioned judgments is possible, it is preferable to change the lub. oil in use with the new oil by about 1,500 hours of engine operation in case this engine maintains the oil volume of 1 2/PS (by replenishment with new oil). In the case of an engine holding oil volume of 125 8, changing lub. oil with new oil by about 400 hours of engine operation is suggested.
