2 Safety instructions
Please read the operating instructions prior to set-up of the device. Ensure that the device is suitable for
your application without any restrictions.
If the operating instructions or the technical data are not adhered to, personal injury and/or damage to
property can occur.
3 System requirements
3.1 PC hardware
–– PC with Pentium III processor or higher, clock frequency min. 500 MHz
–– min. 128 MB RAM
–– min. 10 MB freely available hard disc memory
–– XGA-compatible graphic card with min. 1024 x 768 pixel resolution
–– Ethernet network card for 10Base-T/100Base-TX, TCP/UDP/IP protocol
Note that the system requirements depend on the configuration of VS Monitoring. Connecting to a
lot of sensors needs more bandwidth, performance and more hard disk space to save data.
3.2 PC software
–– Microsoft Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8 operating system
–– Microsoft .NET framework 2.0, 3.0 or 3.5
5 Installation
The application is delivered "ready to use" or as zip archive. Just copy the files or extract the archive to a
directory on the hard disk and execute the file "VS_Monitoring.exe".
Windows 7 is used for the representation of the figures and texts in this guide.

VS Monitoring User Guide
6 Introduction
The application "VS Monitoring" (VSM) is used to monitor multiple sensors at the same time and to store
sensor data to a local disk automatically. VSM provides the option to open multiple monitor windows at
the same time. These windows show the current decoding result of a single sensor. The information that
is displayed here contains the current sensor image, result details as plain text and information that is
drawn as overlay data on the image. With VSM it is possible to store monitoring results automatically to
a local disk. It is also possible to get a service report from the sensor manually or automatically with a
specific frequency. Stored results can be displayed in a result window that can be opened for each sensor
or for a specific folder. A result window displays all saved results in one directory.
Screenshot 1
Note that VSM does not provide any parameterisation functionality for sensors. To parameterise
sensors the normal parameterisation applications must be used (E2I200, E2D200, E2V100).

Most of the buttons in those three elements have the same functionality. The buttons in the sensor list
are used for one selected sensor configuration whereas the buttons in the menu strip and the toolbar are
used for all sensor configurations that are selected at the moment. The elements of the menu strip and
the toolbar provide additional functionality like loading / saving a VS Monitoring configuration or switching
the language of the user interface.

Important note:
The automatic collection of service reports is not recommended for O2D and O2V sensors
because this will lead to a change of the sensor state.

Toolbar In the toolbar the info and image panel and the status strip can be shown or
hidden. There are also buttons to zoom the image in and out.
Info panel The info panel shows detailed information about the displayed result. The
content of the info panel depends on the sensor type. For O2I sensors an
overview of the last decoding is displayed as plain text. Depending on the
sensor type there can be additional tabs that contain additional information. For
all sensor types there is a "display" tab where the visibility of overlay elements
in the image can be switched on/off.
Image panel In the image panel the sensor image is displayed together with overlay
information. It is possible to zoom in and out by using the mouse wheel.
Status strip The status strip can show errors that might occur during polling or displaying
data. It also shows a warning message when the monitor window is open
but monitoring (polling) of the sensor configuration is disabled or the sensor
configuration is not active.

use MDI window The MDI window (→ 10 Using the MDI window) is a big window that can
contain all monitor windows. With the MDI window it is possible to move all
monitor windows at the same time for example.
transparent MDI Makes the background of the MDI window (→ 10 Using the MDI window)
window transparent so that the user can click through it.
window docking Enables/disables the "docking" feature. If docking is enabled, it is possible to
dock a window to the borders of a different window or to the screen borders
while it is moved. Note that the docking feature can cause "flickering" on
system with low resources when a window is moved.
show menu strip Shows/hides the menu strip in the main window.
minimize to tray If this option is enabled and the main window is minimised, all windows will
be hidden and a tray icon will be displayed. A click on the tray icon shows all
windows again.
always show tray icon If this option is enabled, the tray icon will always be displayed.
default paths The default path for monitoring results. This path is shown in the sensor
(monitoring results) configuration window when a new sensor configuration is created. A browser
dialogue can be opened by clicking the button next to this field.
default paths (service The default path for service report results. This path is shown in the sensor
report results) configuration window when a new sensor configuration is created. A browser
dialogue can be opened by clicking the button next to this field.
The options window also contains tabs for the different sensor types (O2D, O2I, O2V). Here the user
can change especially the colours that are used to display the result data in monitor windows and result
windows.

Note: All further changes will be saved to the selected file. A configuration file cannot be opened by
two instances of VS Monitoring at the same time.
If you want to open VS Monitoring directly with a specific configuration file different from the default file,
you have the following three options.

Note that if the auto arrangement feature (→ 8.2 Toolbar) is active, all monitor windows will be
arranged in a 3x3 table that fills the MDI window even if the MDI window is resized. This behaviour
is deactivated when a monitor window or a result window is moved or resized or if the auto arrange
feature is disabled manually.

12 Remarks
12.1 Maximum number of connected sensors
The number of sensor configurations is not limited by the application. However the number of connected
sensors is limited by hardware configuration (PC performance, network bandwidth) and by the way how
the sensor and VS Monitoring are configured (number of models, cycle times...). If you realise that your
system becomes slow, it might be nesseccary to deactivate some sensor configurations in VS Monitoring
or the reduce some cycle times.
O2D ~10 KB
O2I ~1 KB up to 10 KB:
Depends on how many codes were found in the image. The average file size
should be approximately 5 KB.
O2V ~10 KB up to 1000 KB:
Depends on the number of models and on how many objects were found in the
image. The average file size should be in the range from 10 KB to 100 KB.
Images:
The size of the image files is the same for each sensor. Normal images need ~300 KB disk space and
overlay images need ~900 KB.
12.2.2 Details
Result details can be enabled/disabled for monitoring results and service report results in the sensor
configuration window. This detailed information depends on the sensor type:
Disabling detailed information might reduce the result file size a lot.
