THE MESOLITHIC ENEOLITHIC FLINT ASSEMBLAGES

FROM THE NORTH PART OF IK-BELAYA INTERFLUENT AREA

The article deals with a problem of chronological division complex multilayer

settlement of stone eneolithic age situated near the mouth of Belaya river (left tributary
of Kama), on the bank of Azibey lake. Resulting mineral and petrography study a
peculiar type of raw material stratus grey flint has been singled out among the flint
assemblages. The blades and other tools made of this special type of flint have been
supposed used during the Final Neolithic Early Eneolithic on the whole. Flint tool-kits
found within chronologically similar isolated complexes of the burials Russky Shugan
and Minniarovo confirm this hypothesis.

BUILDING MATERIALS AND METROLOGY

Investigation of Saltovo-Mayaki culture has raised the question of the origins of
architectural traditions embodied in the Khazar-Alans forts Don basin. Proposed four versions
of the genesis of these monuments: the Byzantine, Sassanian, Bulgarian and Prabulgarian.
The author does not agree with the view of those scholars who explain the appearance of the
brick architecture of the Khazars borrowing appropriate skills among people in the Caucasus.
He believes that the production of bricks to build fortifications was brought craftsmen from
Kherson and Asian Bosporus. Study stone blocks units of the walls Mayak fort led to the
conclusion that it was constructed by specialists who know the Byzantine metrology and
Byzantine architectural and building traditions. Metrological and chronological characteristics
of Khazar-Alan forts give reason to consider them in the context of the Byzantine sources
information on the construction fort Sarkel by the Byzantine specialists. It was in the interests
of Byzantium and the Khazars in connection with the general political situation prevailing
in the 30s 50s. IX . between the Khazar Khanate, Byzantium, Alan, Russ and the Arab
caliphate.

The subject of this research is the findings, which in science literature press their view
that they are got in touch with proto-Bulgarian presence on the south of the Balkan Range.
Elements of belts are analyzed from single grave, which are found in the vicinity of town
Nova Zagora and nearby villages Zlatary and Gledachevo. According to some researchers the
belts in Zlatari are associated with Avarian presence from the early 19th century. There is a
great interest in the collective grave in Gledachevo where were buried four young people and
are found elements of two belts. B. Totev and O. Pelevina analizy the findings of single graves
from South Bulgaria and they connect them with permanent presence of proto-Bulgarian
aristocrats after joining region Zagore to Bulgaria and they date from 716755. In the second
part of the article is analyzed the fields of ceramics made of grey clay with polished surface
which are concentrated in the area between Nova Zagora, Sliven, Karnobat, Pomorie, Debelt
and Haskovo. In conclusion, it is pointed out that the presence of grey polished ceramics with
decorations on the territory of South Bulgaria can be taken difficult as evidence for massive
presence of Proto-Bulgarians on the south of the Balkan Range. In general this applies to
single graves that are not only few but are uncertain as ethnic indicator for the presence of
proto-Bulgarian administration, much less proto-Bulgarian aristocracy during the first half
of 8th century.

BLADE WEAPONS OF THE PERMIAN URAL

This article addresses the scantily explored topic the archaeological finds of the Permian
blade weapons in the area where Eastern European Plain and Ural Mountains meet. For
the first time this work generalizes significant archaeological and museums material dated
back to the VIIIXV centuries, including the recent finds not yet interpreted by scholars.
Comprehensive analyses of the materials enabled the author to present detailed typological
and chronological characteristics of the certain types and categories of blade weapons and
made it possible to trace back the weapons evolution. Article additionally analyses the role of
sabre (cavalry sword) in local burial rituals.

Keywords: the geomorphology, dangerous exogenous processes, Kuibyshev reservoir, the geoinformation systems, collapsing monuments of archeology, the ancient
settlement Devichiy gorodok, data of remote sensing, historical cards, tacheometric
shooting, GNSS-technologies.
The paper presents the results of studies, performed in 2012 on the shore near Izmry
village, Spassky District, Tatarstan. Through an integrated approach archaeological sites, destroyed by negative exogenous processes studied. Landscape and archaeological research
methods, field and remote sensing data of past years and GIS technologies used during investigations. As a result, the most complete data collected about the situation at the site near
Izmry village since Kuibyshev reservoir creation. The intensity of waterside destruction
evaluated and, consequently, archaeological sites located here in various stages of reservoir
formation. Observation sites for the annual monitoring studies using high-precision tools
organized. This will allow us to predict exogenous processes evolution, to identify priority
areas for more detailed study and archaeological rescue work.

SOME RESULTS OF RESEARCHES OF THE OSTOLOPOVO SETTLEMENT

Article is devoted to studying Ostolopovo settlement in area Alekseevskoe of the Republic
of Tatarstan. It is dated XI first half XII centuries. On settlement expensive import products,
subjects from precious metals and details from the weapon and an armour are found. The
population lived in wooden houses with furnaces of an identical design. The collection of
ceramics, iron-wares, nonferrous metals, a tree, found on settlement, represents the big
interest for studying antiquities of the early period of the Volga Bulgarian state.

THE FUNERAL RITE OF COMPLEXES WITH MOULDED TOOLS
FROM MEDIEVAL SEPULCHERS OF IXXII CENTURIES

The article is devoted to the rite of funeral of women with mouldings from the graves
of the Vetluga-Vyatka interfluve of the IX early XII centuries. The research is based on
25 graves from the Mari monuments, the similar graves from the sepulchers of Mordva and
Muroma are used for the comparative analysis. The graves of women with castings are considered against the background of the Mari funeral rite in the Middle Ages. Certain peculiarities are explained with the help of ethnographic and folklore data. The comprehensive
approach to the analysis of the funeral rite allowed us to make a conclusion that the women
buried with mouldings not only were moulders, but they also carried out certain rites connected with the protection of family and kindred.

A FIRE OF THE TRADE SIDE OF NOVGOROD IN 1508

The article provides the analysis of the chronicle messages about the fire that had happened in august 1508 and destroyed almost all the Trade side of Novgorod the Great. In the fire
killed at least 2000 people, which together with the victims of the previous plague, reduced
the population of the city more than half(?). According to the early XVI century literature
monument The vision of Tharasy, the Sexton of Hutynsky monastery, all these disasters
were due to multiplication of the sins of the human, but by the prayer of st.Varlaam Hutynsky Novgorod has been spared from the flood, which had to completely destroy this town. In
the chronicle reports contain interesting information about the topography of the Trade side,
in particular, mentioned so-called the Arzubievs gardens on Nikitina street, the owners of
which, a well-known figures of the last stage of the independent history of Novgorod, were
repressed by Ivan III. The comparison of the information of the earlier and later the chronicle
texts shows that the latter contains original information about this fire, which came to them,
apparently, of any independent sources.

BURIAL 67 OF KELIYSKIY BURIAL

The following publication brings in into scientific use the martial burial 67 from excavations of Keliyskiy burial ground in mountain Ingushetia. Grave goods, found in the burial,
are quite traditional including a knife, arrowheads, belt buckles, dating from the era of the
Golden Horde. The one singled out is the iron helmet with a visor. Such helmets are similar
not only to those found in funerary monuments of Ingushetia, but to the ones discovered in
the burials of the Golden Horde nomads. This fact provides a basis for comparing it with the
range of martial utterly of Mongolian origin. Burial 67 once more gives rise to the affirmation of the dominant the impact of military affairs in the Golden Horde on the military affairs
of the North Caucasus mountaineers.
