(which is actually a gerund from <+ ) can be followed by a question word (or phrase) to give the
meaning: It depends on when/with whom/what/where/about what, etc.. However, unlike in the English
construction, (depending on) is not (necessarily) followed by a preposition. Instead, it is simply followed
by a question word (or phrase) such as , , , , , , , , , , ,
, etc. Like its English counterpart, is most often used in response to a question. For example, the
following questions could be answered by a number of phrases:
