of the youngest, seemed so singular to the
sultan, that he resolved to gratify them in
their desires; but without communicating
his design to his grand vizier, he charged
him only to take notice of the house, and

Желания трёх сестёр, особенно самой

младшей, показались султану
настолько необыкновенными, что он
решил во что бы то ни стало исполнить

Task 2.

Tales of a Thousand and One Nights is a collection of exciting fairytales

compiled in Arabic. There are many different collections of these tales, and their
content is always different. It is assumed that the first manuscript appeared around
1450. In 1704, the story-book went out in French and English. The first English
version of the book belongs to M.Galland. Publications from Scott, Lane, John Payne
and Richard Burton also gained prominence. Each version of the book is different;
some editors selectively choose fairy tales that will be in their edition, and some even
edit and shorten them, removing repetitive moments for a better perception of the
tale. However, all the characters and sense of the stories remain unchanged, as they
vividly reflect the traditions and customs of the Muslim East, their morals and life.
Task 3.

The genre of this text is narrative, and the type of the literary text is a fairytale.
Generic structure here is a recount in chronological order, where events retell what
happened to our main character, the Persian emperor. One of the characteristics of
fairy tales is that the heroes are in search of something; here, three sisters are looking
for the fulfillment of their desires. Also, one of the sister’s desires is unreal, magical:
tears from pearls, hair of gold and silver. All these features confirm that the type of
text is a fairy tale.
