Babylonian Sermon on the Mount

The article presents several amendments to the K. Jasperss theory of axial age. For
example, the Babylonian text Seven against Naram-Suen (also known as The Cuthean
Legend), created in the middle of the II millennium BC, shows that the idea of non-resistance to
evil by force has already arisen in the society of ancient Mesopotamia, which Jaspers considered
underdeveloped for the approval of religion of salvation in it. A comparison of this text with the
Babylonian Dialogue of Master and Slave found the logical procedure to bring the aggression
to an absurdity. Both the Babylonian texts compared with the Sermon on the Mount of Jesus
Christ. Original interpretation of the Sermon on the Mount in A Commencement Address of
Joseph Brodsky conrmed as historically true.
