Porcelain gres
Porcelain gres is a modern high-tech generation of ceramic

tile. It is justly named the favorite among finish materials. Its
resistance to deep abrasion and high strength make it indispensable
for public spaces with heavy human traffic, at industrial enterprises
with a high floor load, in commercial and private interior spaces. The
minimum rates of water absorption and high frost resistance offer
almost unlimited possibilities for its use not only in interior finishing but
also in cladding of facades of buildings.
The manufacture of porcelain gres under the KERAMA
MARAZZI trademark was started in Russia in 2006. Today it is
produced by two factories of KERAMA MARAZZI Group. The stateof-the-art equipment, innovative technologies and high-quality
materials used in the manufacture enable us to offer the consumers
a product that combines the quality which meets the European
standards and high aesthetic characteristics.
The KERAMA MARAZZI porcelain gres is widely
recognized not only on the Russian market of finishing materials, but
also in the countries near and far abroad. Many large-scale
architectural projects, including the ones of federal importance, were
implemented using the products by KERAMA MARAZZI: the Far
Eastern University (Russky Island), the residential complex "South
Shore" (Krasnoyarsk), the Shopping and Recreation Center "Vegas"
(Moscow). At the moment the work is being carried out on the
finishing of the sports facilities and infrastructure facilities in the
capital of the Winter Olympic Games 2014 - Sochi.
The catalogue of 2013 was supplemented by 19 new series.
Now there is a wider range of porcelain gres products which imitate
the expensive and rare types of marble. Series of ceramic wood
were added and they are very popular today. There are new types of
decorative elements, the manufacture of the new 1560 format was
launched (the series Caravel and Amareno).
This year the 4080 format was supplemented by two new
series. Capitol is a high quality imitation of natural granite, even the
slight glitter of quartz and mica was reproduced to make it look like
natural stone. The asymmetric mosaic border enriches the series.
The series Aventine reproduces the beautiful pattern of marble. Its
luxury is emphasized by the shine of the lappato surface and by the
contrasting decorative elements made using the "hydro-jet"
technology.
The new products in the 2080 format are the series
Brigantine and Frigate. They imitate wood.
The maximum number of new products seven - is in the
format 6060. Two of them - Palazzo and Amareno also imitate a
cross-section of wood.
The lappato series Palazzo is presented in two elegant
shades: light beige and light grey. For the first time the range of
products by KERAMA MARAZZI offers decors in the 6060 format. Its
surface is decorated with lustrous materials and you will see a
delicate classic pattern if you look at the matt surface at a certain
angle.
The series Amareno (6060, 3060, 1560) offers two colors
of ceramic wood: dark brown and warm beige. The surface is
structured; the pattern is applied by digital printing. Imitation of wood
looks equally good both in a square and in a rectangular format. By
combining colors and formats you can find many original design
solutions, both within the series "Amareno" and in combination with
other series of porcelain gres in the 60x60 format.
The series "Loft" (60x60) is a fashionable solution for the design
of residential and public buildings. In industrial buildings converted to
residential ones in the interior designs stylized to look like a loft it is
typical to use muted cold colors and "rough" materials. The imitation
of cement surface in the Loft series will combine perfectly well with
the "wooden" series "Amareno" and metallized decorative elements.
The series Basalto (6060, 3060) is produced using the

tile the pattern is applied using dry colored powders immediately

before pressing. The technology enables you to create a pattern of
any complexity at a given depth within the tile, which results in
enhanced performance and decorative properties of the material (in
case of removal of the top layer the pattern remains unchanged). The
series is supplemented by the metallized decorative elements - the
border and the insert.
The series "Octavian" (60x60) is the embodiment of a number
of technological innovations that make porcelain gres look practically
the same as natural marble: the pattern on each tile is different, just
as it happens when you cut natural stone. It is available in two types:
with matt and glossy surface (solid lappato technology). One can
succeed in creating a respectable elegant interior design by
combining them with each other or with the "wooden" series
"Amareno".
New products in the 30x30 format "Patio" is an imitation of the
old stone used for covering the floors in the Vatican and at the
famous Roman villas. The effect of "ageing" is enhanced by a
pronounced structure on the edge of the tile - the irregularities make
the tile look like chipped and scratched ancient stone. It is
supplemented by aged mosaic borders which are decorated by
elements in the palace style.
"Alley" is one of the richest series of porcelain gres in
decorative elements. Special frit ensures the non-slip effect and
enhances the wear resistance. In addition to the traditional decors,
borders and inserts, this series includes new types of steps - the front
and corner ones. The shaped bevel on the steps greatly improves
their appearance.
The 4242 format presents four series: "Terrace", "Triumph",
"Senate" and "Sisal". "Terrace" is a series of porcelain gres imitating
grey and brown marble. It is available in two types: with a smooth
surface - for indoor use and with a special non-slip frit coating - for
outdoor use. The series "Terrace" is supplemented by front and
corner steps.
The series "Triumph" is an imitation of expensive polished
palace marble. It is produced in a sandy and grey gamut. The series
is supplemented by an elegant decorative mosaic roson (84x84)
produced using hydro-jet technology. The equally elegant border
with a corner insert will provide the final touch of perfection to the
interior design.
The KERAMA MARAZZI porcelain gres stands out not only
because of its strength and wear resistance, but also due to the
splendid design combining high quality and original style. It is an
excellent material for decorating interior spaces of various types and
for exterior finish of buildings.

The production sector of KERAMA MARAZZI Group consists of two

state-of-the art manufacturing plants that produce ceramic tiles, porcelain
gres and mosaics under the KERAMA MARAZZI brand. The basic
assortment of products is supplemented by the decorative ceramic
products: ceramic inserts, decorative panels, decors, borders, pencils,
ceramic skirting boards, and steps.
The main manufacturing plant is located in the city of Oryol. Last year,
it reached its milestone - 20 years ago the first ceramic tile was produced.
Continual quality assurance and assortment extension are the underlying
factors in its development. In 2012, the production line for porcelain gres
was put into operation and four new lines for automatic sorting were
launched. Two last-generation digital printing units were added to the
machinery of the facility the same year.
The plant specializing in porcelain gres production was commissioned
in the Moscow Region in 2006. In 2013, the continual upgrading of
technologies applied in production made it possible to extend the
assortment of KERAMA MARAZZI porcelain gres with the new 15 60 cm
format. This year, products of other dimensions will be added to the product
line.
In 2013, the total production capacity of the two manufacturing plants
will exceed 28 000 000 m2.

slightly different colour. Pay attention to the shade identification
mark. It is strongly recommended to purchase the products of the same
shade.

Tile face curvature deviation of the ceramic tile and porcelain gres
Modulus of rupture, N/mm2
surface from the plane. The tolerance limits regulating the tile face curvature
are set in the regulatory documents and shall be used by the manufacturer
to sort out the products. Insignificant positive (projections) and negative
(depressions) deviations within the tolerance limits shall not be a basis for the
rejection.
Decorative products manufactured with the use of gold, platinum

and metal-based dyes require special care. Use only weak soap
solution and household cleaning agents for enameled ware to remove
stains. After cleaning, wash with clean water thoroughly. Use a soft cloth or
sponge for cleaning. Do not use any abrasive cleaning agents.

It is recommended to use float grout of the same colour as matte

glazed tiles. If you use the float grout of a different contrast colour, you
shall first test it on a small area and make sure that the surface can be

protective coating (KILTO COAT, ATLAS DELFIN) to prevent the penetration
of the coloured pigments in the micro relief and micropores at the matte
glazed tile surface.

Porcelain gres shall require the following care.

After laying, clean the surface immediately. Moist tile-to-tile gaps with water
and treat the tiles with a weak acid solution. Wash the whole surface with
clean water in 15 minutes.
When using cleaning agents with concentrated acid, avoid applying the
cleaning agent to the tile-to-tile gaps.
Polished porcelain gres shall require special care during laying and further
use.
Polishing results in the opening of micropores on the surface of the
porcelain gres. Oil and colouring substances penetrating into these pores
can results in the formation of permanent stains.
It is important:
to prevent the application of an adhesive compound at the face of
the tile. If the adhesive compound is applied to the tile face,
immediately remove it with a clean wet cloth;

grade tile shall be packed in white containers. Second and third grade
tile can be packed in brown containers.

Strength properties
According to EN ISO 10545-4 strength properties include breaking load, breaking stength and
modulus of rupture measured at a definite force speed applied in the middle of the tile.
Breaking load a value of force, in Newton, the application of which causes the damage
of the tested sample. It is measured according to a measuring instrument scale.

Breaking strength a value, in Newton, generated by the multiplication of the breaking

load and the distance between support bars divided by the width of the tested sample.
Modulus of rupture a value, in Newton/mm, generated by the division of the estimated
breaking strength by the squared minimum thickness of the tested sample along the
fracture line.
Severe abrasion resistance

one of the major characteristics of porcelain gres, the standard value of which is set by the
international standard EN ISO10545-6. It basically indicates the number of cubic millimeters the
tested material loses under certain abrasive impact. It largely depends on the type of the tile final
treatment: grinding, polishing, saturation with a synthetic mixture etc. Water absorption rate is also
important for this parameter: the higher is water absorption rate, the lower is severe abrasion
resistance rate.
Thermal expansion rate indicates the increase/decrease of the tile dimensions during
heating/cooling. It is extremely important for laying of porcelain gres over big areas indoors (to
calculate the width of the expansive joints properly) and outdoors (in order to select the best
suitable fastening option, type of adhesive compound and calculate tile-to-tile gaps).

various physical, chemical and thermomechanical properties of the material, its shape, size,
heating and cooling conditions.
Frost resistance
ability of water saturated ceramic items to resist without any damage the impact of multiple
freezing in the air and thawing in water. Frost resistance degree is a number of cycles
(freeze/thaw) a sample stands without any damage. According to EN ISO 10545-12 control
procedures the freeze/thaw cycle is repeated not less than 100 times.
Chemical stability
ability of the tile (glaze) surface or porcelain gres to withstand a

contact with chemical substances (household chemistry products, additives for pools, salts and
acids) at room temperature without getting its appearance changed.
Acc. to ISO 10545-13 ceramic tile and porcelain gres are classified into Chemical Stability groups
as follows:
Unglazed (UGL)
Class A no visual changes;
Class B visual changes at the shear surface
Class C visual changes at the shear surface, on the sample edge and on the front side.
Glazed (GL)
Class A no visual changes;
Class B strong changes of the appearance;
Class C partial or full loss of the original surface.
Before the letter of Class, a letter standing for the tile type (G-glazed, U-unglazed) is added.
Letter H in the abbreviation indicates resistance to acids and alkali of high concentration; letter L
indicates respectively low concentration. If none of these letters is added, it means that the tile is
resistant to household chemical agents and additives for swimming pools.
Thus, UHA, ULA or UA abbreviations stand for "unglazed tile belonging to A Class". GHB, GLB or
GB abbreviations stand for "glazed tile, belonging to B Class".
KERAMA MARAZZI porcelain gres has been tested with the help of the BCR (ritish Ceramic
Research Association) method developed in Great Britain to define coefficient of sliding friction.
This method is applied to test porcelain gres at all enterprises within the MARAZZI GROUP.
BCR method utilizes a classifying scale from 0 to 1. According to the scale 0.1 friction coefficient
means hazardous, while 0.9 friction coefficient means excellent.
BCR friction coefficient of KERAMA MARAZZI porcelain gres is equal to >0.4, which is
considered a satisfactory degree of friction resistance according to the classifying scale.
In compliance with BCR method, KERAMA MARAZZI porcelain gres is a product with skid-proof
surface suitable for all types of premises with no tough requirements set to skid-proof properties.
Defining the friction coefficient is not mandatory for the manufacturers undergoing the
certification procedures, since none of the methods is included into the European standards.
Calibre
is a conventional designation of manufacturing size of the tile set for the production process, the
actual size of the tile shall correspond to, with account of certain tolerance limits. The product is
sorted into lots of one production size (calibre). Size is marked on a container.
Shade
colour value of a porcelain gres lot that can slightly differ from the declared colour. The shade
is marked on a container with a number.

iodine alcoholic solution, and olive oil.
The resistance rate of a ceramic surface to polluting agents depends on the efficiency and ease
of their removal.
There are four cleaning procedures applied in combination with the corresponding cleaning
agents (hot water, weak cleaning agent, strong cleaning agent, and various solvents).
Procedure running hot water.
Procedure manual cleaning with a weak cleaning agent.
Procedure mechanical treatment with a strong cleaning agent.

Satinated porcelain gres is manufactured on the basis of a SATINATING technology (Ital.

satinatura polishing, glassing), which is a type of polishing. It is performed with the help of special
brushes fitted with diamond fibres to get the effect of a matt, polished, slightly aged surface. The
surface of a satinated porcelain gres can be easily cleaned from stains.

is manufactured on the basis of a surface polishing technology,

LAPPING (Ital. lappato lapped, ground). The technology allows getting a semi-polished surface
effect. In contrast to a standard polishing procedure, lapping removes a thinner layer from a
porcelain gres with the help of special grindstones. The lapped porcelain gres surface can be
easily cleaned from stains.
Edged (rectified) porcelain gres

a product subject to additional mechanical treatment, i.e. edged in length and width (rectified
Ital. rettifica correction, rectification). Edged porcelain gres is of uniform size, which allows
laying it with minimum joints or no joints at all.
Water jet cutting (hydrojet)
a method of material cutting with the help of a high

pressure water jet with solid fines. It allows cutting shapes of any complexity from tiles or
porcelain gres.
Double loading
means the technology when homogeneous primary mass is loaded first

into the molds of the press and then the layer of colored heterogeneous mixture with additives
is applied thereon to create the pattern on the tile surface and after that the pressing is
performed.
Complex decorative element
a decorative element made (composed) of several

shaped segments produced with the help of hydrojet technology. Separate segments can be
fastened on a special mesh.
Mosaic decorative element
a decorative element made of segments of different size

and shape fastened on a special mesh.
