The tidal range in the waters included in this volume is of little account; in the N part of Kattegat, the
range amounts to not more than 0,3 m, decreasing farther S, while in the Baltic Sea it is imperceptible.
The Baltic Sea area is only about one-quarter of the land area from which the rivers collect surplus
rainfall and, with little evaporation, there is a great influx of residual fresh water. In addition, a sub-
surface current brings salt water from the North Sea into the Baltic Sea through Storebslt and, to a much
lesser extent, through Lillebslt and The Sound.
The excess water usually exits the Baltic Sea in the surface layers and produces a mainly N-going
surface current over central and N part of the area covered by this volume. The conflicting surface and
sub-surface currents frequently cause races or dead water, and can lead to a reversal in the direction of
the surface current. In the S of the area the current outflow sets W between Sweden and Germany and
divides into two branches as it approaches the Danish islands; one branch sets NW towards the entrance
to The Sound, while the other branch, after sending an off-shoot NW into Gronsund, runs to the S of
Falster. The main flow then sets SW through Kadet Renden, sometimes at a considerable rate. On
rounding Gedser Rev, the main branch sets strongly WNW towards Fehmarnbelt with small offshoots
branching from its S flank to establish weak, and mainly anticlockwise, circulations in the bays along
the German coast. As the WNW current enters Kieler Bucht it again divides; one branch sets N through
Langelands Belt and into Storebelt and other branch WNW towards Lillebelt.

Streams are wind-induced; strong winds, blowing over a long period, cause streams which can reach
high rates in such areas as Storebcelt, Lillebcelt, The Sound, in Fehmarnbelt, and at Gedser. Changes of
directions from the norm that might be expected from a given wind direction can be experienced due to
the shape of the coastlines and the variable water depths; streams may be experienced setting in a
direction opposite to that of the prevailing wind.

Rozewie
контролируем по пеленгам и дистанциям по РЛС до маяков и огней Rozewie (ИП=180°, Dк=4,2;

Drogden

NAVIGATION
Port limits: A vessel is considered as arrived and the laytime commences from the time of vessel's entry into the roads.
Sea buoys, fairways and channels: Port Gdynia can be entered from one of three main routes: from the sea to the E, from Gadansk to the
S and from Puck Bay to the N. All entrances are hazard free. The main harbour entrance is 150m wide and has
a water depth of 14.0m. The outer breakwater extends for 2.5km.
Directions: From "GD" Lightbuoy, the course is 271.5° on the alignment of Gdynia Leading Lights. This approach leads between "G1" and "G2"
Lightbuoys marking each side of the 150m wide channel leading to the main entrance.
Pilot: Compulsory for vessels over LOA 60m, all oil and gas tankers, vessels carrying explosives and vessels which are damaged. Vessels
exceeding 30,000GT shall use 2 pilots when entering and leaving shipyards to carry out sea trials.
Vessels carrying dangerous cargo of IMO Classes 1, 2, 3 or vessels with a draught greater than 9.0m should embark the pilot at the "GD"
Buoy, (54-32.1'N 018-40.0'E) (3.5nm E of the harbour entrance), or at an appropriate anchorage. Vessels with a smaller draught should
embark the pilot at the approach fairway before gates G1-G2. Embarking the pilot at places other than specified shall require permission
from the Harbour Master's Office.
Contact with Gdynia Pilot Station and Pilot boat, on VHF Ch 12. Pilotage is available throughout 24 hours. Request for pilots should be
made no later than 12 hours prior to arrival at the pilot station or on departure from the last port of call stating the following:
1. Vessel's name
2. Breadth
3. LOA
Summer draught
4.
Maximum draught
5. ETA
6.
Then again with confirmation 2 hours before arrival.
Vessels which are to enter the port should make contact with the pilot station or pilot boat early enough to obtain information on how to
obtain a pilot or instructions for safe navigation of the region they are approaching.
Information concerning pilotage may also be obtained on VTS channels.
Anchorages: The roadstead E of the harbour, which is protected by the Hel Peninsula, provides good anchorage, sheltered from all but
E'ly winds and in varying depths according to draught, the nature of the bottom is fine good holding sand.
Three anchorages are available to the E of the breakwater S of the leading line to the main entrance in depths of 10.0 to 20.0m.
Anchorage No 1 extending between 0.3nm and 2nm E of the detached main breakwater is for vessels with a draught of less than 8.5m,
vessels in excess of this draught must await the pilot in the vicinity of "GD" Lightbuoy or anchor to the SE in either Anchorage No 2, or if
a tanker, in Anchorage No 3.
A spoil ground is centred 5nm ENE of the port entrance. A
speed limit of 7kts applies in the roads.
Tidal range and flow: The port is non tidal with no currents or high waves. However, during sustained strong W'ly winds the water level
can rise by up to 0.6m; during strong E'ly winds the water level can fall by as much as 0.6m.
Dock density: 1006.
Weather: Prevailing winds: NW'ly.
The port is generally ice free. Ice formation can occur from February to March. Winds from the N, E and S can cause shifting ice fields in
the roadstead which may create problems for small and medium sized vessels. Icebreakers keep the channels and roadstead clear.
