The way we look at food often stems from our
childhood. Nutrition experts chalk excess weight up to
our eating pattern obtained in early years. Our excess
weight is sometimes not about our weak incentive to
lose weight, it’s about what our parents told us. We can
notice some certain habits that we cultivated in our
childhood if we take a stroll down memory lane.
1) Empty plates
Whenever a child reaches out for a candy bar, parents often make snide comments about the
consequences of eating chocolate. They recommend eating something savory instead since
chocolate is a recipe for gaining weight and problems with health. Though the latter might
be true, if a child wants a candy bar, parents shouldn’t get flustered about it, rather they need
to let a child savor this bar and forget about it. If they keep reiterating that chocolate is a bad
thing, a child can later just pig out on chocolate since it’s something prohibited. As the adage
goes, forbidden fruit is so much sweeter.
Whenever a student would get a bad grade at school, or, for instance, crashed a bike, our
hearted grannies would offer some yummies to mitigate our anxiety and bad mood. This
practice taught us that whenever we felt bad about something, food was just indispensable
to tackle all our problems. After some mishaps cropping up we had a gust of rushing to the
store for food in order to be in our element again and finally calm down. However, instead of
incessant forays to the kitchen, we need to find the nub of our poor state and understand
our emotions.
It might sound counterintuitive but we shouldn’t have any food frames in childhood. Our
parents shouldn’t force us to valiantly finish meals when we’re already full, nor should they
make us stop eating our favorite foods outright. When we are young, our bodies are malleable,
and later they can represent the outcomes of our eating pattern instilled by parents.
If you’re a teenager struggling with your parents about food, it’s important to stipulate these
moments with your loved ones. They are unlikely to listen to you, at least try to underline the
importance of health for you and you’ll cut the mustard.
14
Otherwise, our early eating habits with restrictions segue into incessant dieting attempts.
In adult life we can’t forge a good relationship with food experiencing ebbs and flows of
following certain diets. If someone is talking about diets in earshot, we’re just all ears trying
to find out more about ways of losing these annoying kilos. We want to have results
outright, we can lose weight by leaps and bounds but end up gaining even more weight
afterwards because of our haphazard diets and its effect on our psycho.
By serendipity we come across diet experts and are ready to pay a huge sum of money to
solve our nutrition problems, and diets make a tidy profit because it’s like a racing game -
@for_girls5
they never help us when prescribing one more diet. The only person that can help us to fix
and break our childhood eating patterns is a psychologist, not a dietitian.

@for_girls5
and the effect of my classmates’ comments about my weight spiraled into a huge
complex of mine. I tried my best to stave off my hunger and abstain from all junk food
and sweets but 3 days later I ended up eating my granny’s home-baked cake that would
derail my diet. After that all my attempts to lose weight went downhill and I would gain
even more weight after making night foreys to the kitchen.
Then I turned 15 and met my first boyfriend. My desire to devour everything I saw was
debilitated since all emotions that I compensated with food I started getting from my
boyfriend. I finally felt content with my life. That time I set a goal to lose 10 kilos within 3
months by hook or by crook.
The first days were pretty taxing since I decided to abstain from all foods that I relished,
and it was my mistake. Even though, something retained my motivation and I kept losing
weight. I enrolled in different communities where girls shared their stories, they all were
heartfelt and nobody condemned you for your desire to lose weight.
When you see your first results - your desire to devour foods fades away and you can get
addicted to incessant dieting. This happened to me. A month later I managed to lose a lot
of weight. I felt really proud of myself but I kept ignoring the fact that I was sluggish all the
time. I couldn’t learn anything properly at school, I looked listless and disinterested. I was
angry when I saw no changes on my scales in the morning, ignoring the fact that losing
weight might not be linear like any progress. The only thing that I was wary of was
overeating, so I kept thinking about food all the time.
First weeks of my diet my results were unobtrusive since I was wearing mostly baggy
clothes. As it was getting warmer, my classmates started complimenting me on my body.
It ignited my desire to lose weight further. Girls were asking about my diet and I was happy
to share with them everything that I struggled with.
I was just touted as a girl with strong will and everyone in school asked me to help them
with their diet, it was like a side-hustle for me. I was into nutrition and kept telling
everyone that all the yummies that we love had no intrinsic value to our body and we
should eat only healthy foods.
Hardly had I known that my diet was a surefire way to develop eating disorders. My
appetite was dormant most of the time, I had to force myself to eat and I missed hunger
cues. However, I kept incorporating some new diets into my routine like mono diets
where you eat one type of food all day. I likened diets with some kind of competition
where I had no choice but to win. It was not a fad anymore, it was getting serious and
could become the bane of my life.
One morning I decided to weigh myself and saw 39 kg on a scale. I was terrified and
overcome by a sense of bereavement. I felt that I lost myself because of those diets and my
life just revolved around food. However, my case was salvageable, thank God. It took years
to recover from incessant thoughts about food but I rode it out.

mind when one thinks of female bodybuilders, bikini competitors
are slim and sleek. The look is more Barbie than brawny, but it
requires a lot of effort to achieve.
There are certain kinds of women who take part in this competition.
Firstly, this competition is popular among fitness trainers who have
many years of workouts under their belt. We can surmise that it’s
one of the reasonable ways for them to branch out and increase
their income. The cornerstone of their partaking is to show their
clients what their bodies can look like. This, in turn, can induce the
number of potential clients to go to the gym because women see
the results and want to take a leaf out of their trainer’s book.
Workouts with such trainers are usually at a premium because you
inadvertently end up being highly motivated and hyped up when
seeing a perfect body during workouts.
You see that a shredded body is not some kind of flight of fancy, and this helps you make
your attempts to nix eating chocolate and junk foods just trifling.
And then there is another category of people who take part in this competition. Sometimes
you have no impetus to bulk, get shredded or look flawless in summer, you just dabble in the
fitness industry, go to the gym and become wishy-washy about your goals. Those who
cannot find motivation, start thinking about bikini fitness since you have a fixed date by
which you have to look perfect. However, this category of people are prone to have some
aftermath especially if there’s little time on their hands and they need to hasten to lose
weight. Here your attitude to a diet shouldn’t be facile, you have no time to come up with
some paltry excuse to skip your meals or workouts. You have to adjust to insipid food and be
unflappable when there are people around you who eat whatever they want. There’s no time
to fall off the wagon, every calorie is at a premium. This restricted short-term follows some
psychological problems. When you fall back on counting calories every day, you can look
hapless because you have no f reedom. However, next time you pig out on your favorite foods,
everything feels stodgy to you, and you regret eating this, especially when waking up the next
morning and being adhast at looking at your scales. Unbidden calories inevitably come back
and it’s already a tall order to continue your diet when coming across a rebound.
When thinking about this competition, you should be aware of all the ebbs and flows you can
