In the sequence evacuation all air and moisture is removed from the cooling circuit, this
sequence can optional be based on time or pressure. When the cooling circuit is evacu-
ated the SARA-MAX-F monitor the vacuum level in sequence vacuum check, to ensure that
no leaks are to be found in the connected cooling circuit. Optionally the sequence second
evacuation can be applied, to obtain the optimal vacuum level in the connected cooling cir-
cuit before the refrigerant is charged. With the cooling circuit approved sequence charging
is carried out, the cooling circuit is charged with the preset amount and type of refrigerant.
When the cooling circuit is charged with refrigerant the possibility to pause the process for
welding is given. In sequence process end the charging gun is automatically disconnected
from the cooling circuit. The SARA-MAX-F is ready to be connected on the next cooling
unit.
With a charging speed exceeding 20 gram per second, adjustable timers and settings, the
SARA-MAX-F charging and evacuation station will fit perfectly in Your existing production
environment. For safe operation by handling flammable refrigerant the SARA-MAX-F con-
stantly monitor the gas concentration and the ventilation flow.
The SARA-MAX-F evacuation and charging station is made for operation with flammable
refrigerants R600a (isobutane) or R290 (propane) according to VGB20. Refrigerant classifi-
cation for R600a and R290 is group 3.
The SARA-MAX-F evacuation and charging station is only to be used with refrigerant type
according to the nameplate.
The SARA-MAX-F is NOT made for operation in explosion-proof areas, instead the inside of
the mechanical cabinet is designed for EX –ZONE: 2. The SARA-MAX-F will be installed by a
production line and will charge refrigerant in liquid state into the connected cooling circuits.
The connection to the cooling circuit is made by a charging gun.
The SARA-MAX-F is available in two versions, one with built in SAFE-EN and one with-out.
No matter which version is installed, it’s the user of the SARA-MAX-F who is responsible,
that the total installation comply with and is certified in accordance to demands (standards
e.g. ATEX and local authorities) of equipment in use of flammable refrigerant, including daily
operation and maintenance.
If the SARA-MAX-F is equipped with SAFE-EN system, the equipment is a part of the total
installation, covering the equipment itself and the tray in the charging (production) area. All
AGramkow installation guidelines must be followed exactly. The Agramkow guidelines do
support an overall TÜV certification of the complete installation.
If the SARA-MAX-F do not include a built in SAFE-EN the equipment must be monitored and
controlled by an overall SAFE system.

AGramkow do support an overall SAFE-EN system, supporting an complete TÜV certifica-
tion of the installation, pls consult your local Agramkow partner for further information and
support.
AGRAMKOW Fluid Systems A/S offer the safety system SAFE-EN, this system covers the
complete gas installation and can be implemented with all variations of gas supply systems.
If SAFE-EN is Your Choice, AGRAMKOW Fluid Systems A/S assist with factory layouts, that
let SAFE-EN monitor all eventually gas leaks and control the entire gas installation to avoid
any explosion danger.
As options the SARA-MAX-F can be equipped with a bar code reading system, printer, extra
evacuation gun or evacuation and charging gun and no-refrigerant-release system. See
chapter Options for further details on options if included.
If the SARA-MAX-F charging and evacuation station is built in conformity with the COUN-
CIL DIRECTIVE on mutual approximation of the laws of the Member States on the safety of
machines, the EC Declaration of Conformity is placed in this chapter.
Please note that this EC Declaration is only a part of the complete declaration re-
quired to start up your production. The final declaration cannot be issued before the
entire installation is approved by a professionally skilled person or by local authori-
ties, depending on National regulations.

Safety regulations
Before installation of this charging and evacuation station
is made, the customer must work out a safety plan, which
covers against all risk from the complete gas installation.
This SARA-MAX-F is approved as stand-alone charging and
evacuation station. Additionally Agramkow offers the safety
system SAFE-EN, this system covers the complete gas in-
stallation and can be implemented with all variations of gas
supply systems. If SAFE-EN is your choice, Agramkow assists
with factory layouts that let SAFE-EN monitor all eventually
gas leaks and controls the entire gas installation to avoid any
explosion danger
Attention!
At mix production charging flammable and non-flammable
The SARA-MAX-F evacuation and charging station is built according to the newest tech-
nique and is safe for operation. Nevertheless, danger could still arise, if incorrectly operated
by non trained personnel, or if used for the wrong purpose.
The SARA-MAX-F serves the sole purpose of charging non-charged cooling circuits with
flammable and non-flammable refrigerants after the cooling circuit has been evacuated. Any
other use, apart from this, is considered as not conforming to regulations and is entirely at
the risk of the operator. Agramkow Fluid Systems A/S cannot be held liable for any damage
resulting from the aforementioned misuse.
Customer’s responsibility:
• Leakage’s that can cause explosive danger must be evacuated, concealed or elimi-
nated!
• Precautions must account for the worst condition.
• Antistatic clothing must be used wherever necessary.
• New equipment may only be used if concluded by the risk assessment.
• Confusion of the connections to a machine must be impossible.
• The risk of explosion must be minimised and necessary precautions must be taken
to avoid the dispersion of a possible explosion to minimise the damage.
• If necessary the employees must be alarmed visually and/or acoustically and leave
the area before an explosion could evolve.
• Maintained escape routes must be ready in an appropriate number.
• The safety must be inspected before usage the first time.

forming service.

General refrigerant properties and first aid
Properties of R600a, R152a and R290:
R600, R152a and R290 is extremely flammable, therefore all ignition
! sources must be avoided !
Escaping liquid R600a, R152a or R290 will evaporate and mix with air and
! thus create an explosive mix.
Contact with liquid R600a, R152a or R290 may result in serious eye inju-
! ries or frozen skin injuries.
If any leaks occur - when working with R600a, R152a or R290 - thor-
oughly ventilate the room.
! membranes in the throat and in the breathing organs, and at really large
concentrations for a longer, period it will cause inflammation of the lungs.
Breathing trouble can be avoided by going outside in fresh air, and after-
wards a doctor should be contacted.
At skin contact, the skin should be washed with soap and water. After that
the skin should be smeared with skin cream.

wards a doctor must be contacted.

in case of persistent pain or redness.

Installation
Agramkow or an Agramkow partner MUST always perform installation and start up of the
equipment.
Installation not including SAFE monitor and control systems by Agramkow, it’s the custom-
ers responsibility that the total installation is in accordance to demands (standards e.g.
ATEX and local authorities) of equipment in use of flammable refrigerant.

Transport
!
When transporting the SARA-MAX-F, use only suitable transpor-
tation vehicles with sufficient transport capacity.
Pay attention to the markings "Top", "Breakable" and "Protect against rain" on the transpor-
tation box.

Check that the electrical power supply is the same as the supply
specified on the station.

• onnect the SARA-MAX-F to a ventilation unit approved for flammable refrigerant,
C
using the ø100 connection on the back of the station. We refer to the section Solu-
tion for EX classified production included in this instruction.
• Connect the ventilation connection between the SARA-MAX-F and the bottle cabi-
net using the ø100 connection on the back of the station. The two red air hoses,
the green and yellow ground cable, the two wire from the pressure sensor and the
refrigerant supply hoses are run inside the ventilation hose. Connect the two red
air hoses on the quick closing valve in the cabinet, connect the cable to the cabinet,
connect the two wire from the pressure sensor and connect the refrigerant supply
hoses at the cabinet outlet. We refer to the section Solution for EX classified produc-
tion included in this instruction.
• Check the oil level in the vacuum pump. If oil has to be added, add oil according to the
vacuum pump operation manual; see the documentation components CD on the last
page of this binder.

Minimum oil level is 0.5 litre
• Connect the air supply at the pressure air inlet located on the back of the station. The
supply air must not be lubricated.
Use 8 mm air hose simply push on the hose at the adapter, and ensure that the air
pressure is between 6 and 10 bar.
If you pressed the Emergency stop button, turn the red part right
to release it.
!
Do not connect the refrigerant yet! It is dangerous to perform
SELF-EVACUATION!
• When all standards and demands from local authorities are fulfilled regarding the in-
stallation, switch on the station on the main ON/OFF switch located on the right side
of the charging and evacuation station. The charging and evacuation station will now
automatically load its configuration files.
• Activate the ON switch on the HMI. The alarm horn will now be switched on, several
faults will occur, and the vacuum pump will start.

• heck the direction of rotation on the vacuum pump. In case of incorrect direction,
C
turn off the station on the main ON/OFF switch and swap two phases. Now switch
on the station and check the direction of rotation again.
Direction of rotation
Since the charging and evacuation station has just been trans-
ported, its piping system will contain moisture, which is the rea-
son for the fault "SF32". "Inadmissible vacuum in module, object =
ME1" will occur several times. Press the RESET button on the HMI
when this fault occurs. Fault "SF40, media inlet pressure too low,
object = ME1" is active because no refrigerant supply has been
connected yet.

Connection of the refrigerant supply
The SARA-MAX-F charging and evacuation station is supplied either with refrigerant supply
from a bottle, or refrigerant supply from a line. In both cases prepare the flammable refriger-
ant outlet by mounting one of the included adapters. The included adapters are delivered
respectively with 7/8” and 5/8” pipe thread and male HK3 couplings.

• Open the door to the mechanical part of the station and locate the air regulator to ad-
just the outlet refrigerant pressure. The outlet refrigerant pressure must comply with
the below table. The outlet refrigerant pressure is only to be adjusted during charg-
ing, during charging the pressure is indicated on the gauge.
All connections have now been made, and you are ready to calibrate the charging gun to
achieve the best charging accuracy.

Calibration of the charging gun
Calibration of the charging gun is carried out to achieve the best charging accuracy. A
valve delay must be calculated for every charging valve, and massleft must be calculated
for every gun. The valve delay is the response time for the charging valves in the gun, and
the massleft is the refrigerant amount which is recovered by the vacuum pump at every
cycle. For this calibration, you must have a test container suitable for the refrigerant amount
and type which the charging station is going to charge, and with couplings suitable for the
charging gun. The test containers must be capable of holding 3 times the charging amount,
and under no circumstances a refrigerant density of more than 330 gram per litre must be

Connecting the SARA-MAX-F to the network
The web interface of the SARA-MAX-F charging and evacuation station extends the func-
tionality of the MPC using a standard HTML browser (i.e. Microsoft Explorer), which is avail-
able through the Ethernet connection of the MPC. This web interface enables configuration
of the SARA-MAX-F parameters, view and printing of error logs, view and control of inputs
and outputs, TPM management and receipt of an e-mail in case of a fault. If you want to set
up a permanent connection to the SARA-MAX-F charging and evacuation station, we rec-
ommend that you order an IP address from your network administrator. In all other cases,
use the dynamic IP address automatically detected by the MPC

Connecting the option PLIS
For fully automation of the process the PLIS, Production Line Information System must be
installed on a PC, the channel selection is then made by barcode, and all achieved process
data are logged and stored for complete traceability. To be able to use all benefits of the
PLIS system the station must be connected to Ethernet, PLIS 4, if connection is made by
COM 1 or Com 2, the limitation is the MAX 95 protocol, and PLIS version 2, 3 and 4 can be
used.
To set up the option PLIS, access the HMI as described in section “Connecting the SARA-
MAX to the network”.

Operation
The SARA-MAX charging and evacuation station is at delivery set-up with standard timers
and features to comply with the standard control requirements, never the less all timers and
features can be changed allowing the station to fit exactly to the actual environment, e.g. the
evacuation can be controlled either on level or time and the charging gun can automatically
disconnect at process end or be paused until the operator acknowledge disconnection.

lowing the advanced user to access all settings, and in the other end of the scale the opera-
tor can not make any changes. The five levels are: Operator, Quality Manager, Maintenance,

Agramkow Length, Mask and Model definition
To increase the bar code flexibility Agramkow stations include Mask technology. By use of
Mask technology Agramkow makes it possible to define specified read places in the com-
plete bar code for identification, still controlling start, stop characters as well as the check-
sum to avoid incorrect readings of broken labels.
To make use of this feature the definition of the bar code length, without start and stop char-
acters, and which specified read places to read must be defined.

Set-up of the local mask and adapt the amount from a second bar code
As the global mask was stored with the size of ten digits, this was because the most used
bar code used in the factory contain the ten digits, but we also want to be able to use
a bar code with ie. 15 digits and adapt the amount from a second scan ie. a bar code
identifying the compressor. Set-up line "Model:" to the 8 digits to recognize, and give the
model a name in line "Text:". Choose "Local" and set-up to carry out the process channel
10 with this bar code. (Press "Get" when the channel number is chosen). Tick off "Local
Mask" and set the "Barcode Length:" to 21, length is 15 digits from the first bar code, and
6 digits from the second bar code. In line "Mask:" tell which digits to read, enter 1 to 7
separated by a point, (the 7 first digits on the first label) and 16, (indicating the first digits
of the second bar code). this must be 8 digits as our model include the 8 digits. In line
"Parts:" write 2, because two bar codes is scanned in succession. In line "Parts Length:"
write 21, the total number of digits in the bar codes. Tick off "Charge Fields Enable" to al-
low to adapt the amount. Press "Edit" specify where to read the amount.

Choose "1. Charge amount" and in "Settings" choose "Enabled". In line "Index" specify
where the start of the amount can be read in the bar code, here start to read at digit 18.
In line "Count" specify how many digits to read to obtain the amount, here 3 digit. Press
"Save" to store the data. As two bar codes are scanned in succession the "Test Barcodes"
is not used, instead test by scanning the actual bar codes in succession, here the first 7
digits from the first label (Ch_052_) informs the station to use process data from channel
ten, but the amount is adapted from digit 18 and the next 3 digits, 125 gram.

Scan the compressor bar code and verify or adapt the amount
First set-up a global mask of type Component, the mask gives information of how many
digits the bar code will include, and which digits has to be recognised, activate "New" to
set-up the global mask.
In line "Type" choose "Component" and in line "Barcode length:" enter the total length of
the bar code, in this example 10.
In line "Mask" specify which digits to read from the bar code, separated by a point, in this
example digits 1,2,3,4 and 10 has to be read. In line "Text" give the mask a recognizably
name i.e. "Test Compressor".
Activate "Save" to store the global component mask. Note it is possible to store a global
component mask of size 10 digits when also a global product mask of size 10 digits has
been stored.

Activate the "Compressor" tab. In line "Model" write Comp1, digits 1,2,3,4,10 from the bar
code selected by the global product mask. In line "Text" write a text which refer to the
actual compressor, here Model 1. Activate "Save" to store the model. In this example the
global product mask is used, but the possibility to use a local mask as by Set-up of the
local mask and storing a bar code is given.
In the same way create two models more, called Comp2 and Comp3 also using the global
product mask. Remember to store the models.

Activate the "Channels" tab and choose the channel which has to verify or adapt the
amount from a bar code. Activate the "Compressor check" tab. In the first line activate
"New", and in line Steps the text "Step_1" appear, indicating what to carry out when the
first compressor bar code is scanned. In the collection press "Comp1" then "Add" then
"OK" and then "Save". The actual charging channel will now be paused before the step
charging is carried out, and ask for verification by a compressor scan.
If the channel is allowed to be carried out with other compressors adapt these bar codes
also to "Step_1"

The possibility is given to scan more than one bar code on a compressor, in this case
activate "New" in the first line, and in line Steps the text "Step_2" appear, a second bar
code has to be scanned. In the collection press "Comp2" then "Add", if this bar code is
scanned, we want to replace the amount from channel 1 with i.e. 50 gram, type 50 in the
line "Charge amount" then "OK" and then "Save"

If the second scan also can be compressor type three, press "Comp3" then "Add" then
"OK" and then "Save". The channel will now ask for two compressor scan in succession,
if the bar code "Comp2" is scanned the channel will adapt the amount 50 gram, but if the
bar code "Comp3" is scanned instead as the second scan, the amount included in the
channel will be charged.

Switching the station off
To make sure the running program is closed down properly and the latest changes is saved
the HMI is supplied with capacitors. These capacitors is fully charged when the station has
been switched on for 10 minutes, data can be lost by switching off the station on the main
switch before the capacitors are fully charged. The SARA-MAX charging and evacuation
station is fitted with a shut down procedure to make a safe switch off, and by option flam-
mable refrigerant the ventilation capacity and the gas concentration in the mechanical part
of the station, zone 2, is still monitored after switch off.

Trouble shooting
Basic
The charging and evacuation station is equipped with a fault analysis program. All the sen-
sors, fuses and motor protectors in the station are constantly monitored. The possible faults
are divided into Station faults (SF) and process faults (PF).
If a fault occur it is indicated by means of a blinking lamp and an acoustic alarm, the type of
process fault is shown in the display, and if the fault is corrected it is possible to complete
the process. By station faults the fault and the fault number is displayed by pressing the
fault tab on the main display.
In this chapter the faults are listed in numerical order.

Application
The AGRAMKOW safety system is designed to monitor any gas leaks
and control the SARA-MAX-F charging system to avoid any explosion
danger.
The system is build according to TÜV guidelines and fulfils the directives

Monitoring, the safety system consists of three monitoring systems
2. Ventilation system
The ventilation system must be active during production and in stand-
by mode, ready for start at gas warning.
1. OK signal from the gas sensor in the charging station and from the
gas sensor in the conveyor tray.
Local Alarm
1. A Local Alarm must be installed near by, but in safe distance, to the
charging station. The local alarm has the same function as the 35%
LEL alarm, and will cut off the power to the Zone 2 area, mechanical
cabinet of the charging station, the bottle cabinet and the drop box.
The ventilation speed is increased to speed 2, the visual alarm is ac-
tivated, red steady light and acoustic alarm is activated with constant
warning.
6. At 35% LEL the visual alarm is activated, red steady light and
acoustic alarm is activated with constant warning.
2. The SAFE-EN sets the ventilation system to level 1, and checks the
gas sensors.
3. The SAFE-EN system monitors the flow control (pos 11) after a few
seconds delay.
4. Now the actuator (pos 12) and all equipment in Zone 2 are switched
on.
Safety during operation
1. Generally
All pipes and hoses in which liquid may be trapped must be equipped
with safety valves. The outlets of the safety valves must either be lead
over the roof or connected to the ex-ventilation.
2. Supply
The gas sensor (pos 13) monitor possible leakages from the supply
cabinet.
At 35% LEL the valve (pos 12) is closed, fans stays in level 2. The
visual alarm is activated, red steady light and
acoustic alarm is activated with constant warning.
At power cut or lack of compressed air the valve (pos 12) will also be
closed.
The flow sensor (pos 11) monitors the ventilation itself and the ventila-
tion in the charging station, the bottle cabinet and in the drop box. At
fault the valve (pos 12) will close.
At Local alarm the valve (Pos 12) will close, the fans starts in level 2,
the visual alarm is activated, red steady light and
acoustic alarm is activated with constant warning.
3. Charging station
Gas sensors (pos 13, 21) will monitor possible gas leakages in the
cabinet of the charging station and the conveyor tray.
At 15% LEL the ventilation will be increased to level 2, the power sup-
ply to zone 2 is cut off, mechanical cabinet of the charging station.
The visual alarm is activated, red light no flash and acoustic alarm is
activated with short interval warning.

3. Charging station
The ventilation controls (pos 11, 23) monitor the ventilation. At fault
the valve (pos 12) will close.
At Local alarm, the power is cut to the zone 2, the valve (Pos 12)
will close, the fans starts in level 2, the visual alarm is activated, red
steady light and
acoustic alarm is activated with constant warning.
1. Supply cabinet
When changing the refrigerant bottles in the supply cabinet, the
valves of the bottles must be closed, therefore by disconnection
of the quick connectors only a minimum of refrigerant will escape.
This refrigerant volume will not create a dangerous situation. When
opening the supply cabinet the flow sensors will register this. After a
certain delay, the charging station will activate 15% LEL alarm.
Any discharge inside the cabinet will be registered by the gas sensor
and the supply will be closed by the valve (Pos 12).
2. Charging station
Pipe burst in the charging station will be registered by the gas sensor
(pos 13). The amount which might escape will be ventilated. The shut
off valve (Pos 12) will close.
1. Charging station
If the charging gun is accidentally disconnected from the refrigera-
tor during process, the set charging volume will discharge into the
charging area. This amount is limited to the actual charge ( max. 150
gr. ) and at correctly placed gun, this amount will be caught by the
conveyor tray.
2. Repair area
In the repair area it must be taken into account that refrigerators con-
tain flammable refrigerant. Before connecting the charging station the
refrigerator must be vented and the vacuum pump must be EX- proof,
or the flammable refrigerant must be evacuated by some other Ex-
proof item, prior to the re-charging.
