Arc- furnace melting production

The production capabilities of Energomashspetsstal rc- furnace melting shop allow to ensure
casting process of up to 420 tons steel forged ingots, up
to 300 tons steel and cast-iron castings produced of carbon, low alloyed, alloyed, high alloyed corrosion resisting,
constructional and casting steel grades, grey and highstrength cast iron and compacted graphite iron.

The production capability of the arc-furnace melting

shop is supported by the following equipment:

fitted with manipulator and intensifying units made by
CVS. The manipulator is equipped with three lances two
of which are used for oxygen blowing, and one is for
blowing carbon dust

Depending on the final product requirements, steel

melting process incorporates melting in the electric arc
furnace, secondary refining using Ladle furnace and vacuum degassing followed by vacuum top pouring or air
bottom pouring with ensuring metal stream protection
from the secondary oxidization.
Various methods and processes, such as silicon free
bulk deoxidization, vacuum carbon deoxidization (VCD)
in the ladle and in the stream during pouring as well as
argon blowing, wire addition and microalloying, are successfully implemented into practice to ensure and maintain high quality of metal.

ARKOS .

To ensure and maintain the constant supply of the

arc- furnace shop with the furnace charge the charge
preparation site is equipped with the shearing press.

Production capabilities together with advanced operational control facilities and modern production technology allow to meet customers'demands and ensure
high quality products.
High metal quality is presented by the following figures:
- the content of detrimental impurities in steel not alloyed with the given agents
- Sulphur (S) no more than 0.005%
- Phosphoros (P) no more than 0.010 %
- gas content after vacuum degassing
- Oxygen (O) 30 ppm
- Hydrogen (H) no more than 1.5 ppm
- Nitrogen (N) no more than 70 ppm

ucts and alloys treatment by thermal influence for the
purposeoftheirstructureandpropertieschangesinthe
defineddirection.
Classification of heat treatment kinds is based on
typeofstructuralchangesinmetalispresentedatther
mal influence. Heat treatment of metals includes follow
ing kinds: annealing of 1st sort, annealing of 2nd sort,
quenching without polymorphic transformation and with
polymorphictransformation,agingandtempering.

Annealing of 1st sort (homogenizated, recrystalli

zated and for reduction of residual stress) partially or
completely eliminates deviations from an equilibrium
condition of the structure which are arisen at casting,
processing by pressure, welding, etc. technological proc
esses. The processes that eliminate deviations from an
equilibrium condition are passed spontaneously, and
heating at 1st sort annealing iis performed only for their
acceleration.Keyparametersofsuchannealingaretem

deviations from an equilibrium condition the following
typesof1stsortannealingarerecognized:

Homogenizatedannealingisconsideredforelimina

solid solution becomes inhomogeneous and, besides,
there can be a nonequilibrium phase, for example a
chemical compound that makes an alloy brittle. At ho

of nonequilibrium superfluous phases therefore the alloy
becomes more homogeneous. After such annealing plas

Annealing that reduces the pressure, is applied to

products in which at pressure machinability, casting,
welding, heat treatment, etc. technological processes
have arisen unacceptable high residual stresses that are
mutually counterbalanced inside a body without partici
pation of external loadings. Residual stresses can cause
distortion of the shape and sizes of a product during its
machining,operationorstorageinawarehouse.Atheat

Holdingtimeshouldbeminimumtoprovideuniform
heating along the product section. Speed of cooling on
quiet air usually makes 150250 S/ch; however at nor
malisation of massive products the speed of cooling
should be regulated depending on their sizes and steel
structureaccordingtokineticstransformationsofausten
ite. The increase in speed of heating, minimum possible
temperaturesand holding time provide the reception of
smaller austenite grain and more disperse mixture of
pearliteorsorbitewithferrite.

Alloys,mainlythesteelsquenchedonmartensiteare
subjected for tempering. Process key parametres tem
peratureofheatingandholdingtime,andinsome
cases the speed of cooling (for prevention of tempering
embrittlement). Martensite is considered as oversatu
rated solution in steels and the main point of structural
changesattemperingisthesameasatageingdisinte
gration of thermodynamic unstable oversaturated solu
tion. Difference of tempering from ageing is connected
first of all with features of a substructure of martensite,
and also with behaviour of carbon in martensite of the
quenched steel. The big number of defects of a crystal
structure is typical for martensite (dispositions, etc.). At
oms of carbon quickly diffuse in a lattice of martensite
and form on dispositions of segregation, and probably
disperse particles of carbide after quenching or even in
periodofhardeningcooling.Asresultquenchedsteelap
