OUR WORK
We fly by IL-76. It’s a cargo aircraft {a freighter). We carry much cargo. We
do not carry passengers. IL-76 can carry 40 tons of cargo.
Before flight we load the aircraft. We open the doors, install the cargo ramp
and the tail stand. We check cargo documentation; the cargo manifest, the
loadsheet, the air waybill. We inspect marking, packing, lashing. We check weight
of cargo. We use lashing equipment. We supervise the loading operations. We must
distribute the weight properly. We contact business customers. We close the doors
after loading and check closing. We accompany freight.
In flight I sit in the cargo hold and watch the cargo. I provide meals for the
crew members in flight.
After landing I open the doors and install the cargo ramp and the tail stand
and unload the cargo (offload). I supervise unloading operations. I contact traffic
representatives. I contact the catering staff and order catering for the crew members
I look after catering.
Loading and unloading operations take much time.
We use cargo pallets and containers. (A pallet is a platform on which cargo
is stacked and kept by a net, then lifted into the aircraft cargo hold for transportati
on). We use pallet hoists (winches) and cranes. We lash cargo by net. We contact
cargo agents. Cargo agents collect and deliver the cargo.
We check the air waybill: the waybill number, the name of the consignee,
time and place of despatch. We are responsible for cargo handling.
