ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER DOLLAR

James Cash is a very rich man – in fact, he's a multi-
millionaire. He is thirty-five years old and lives in a
mansion in the country. He is the chairman of a big
company.
Every day he has breakfast in bed. He usually has
boiled eggs and champagne. He makes phone calls and
reads the newspapers at breakfast time. Then he gets
dressed. His servants help him. He always wears a smart
suit to the office.
At seven o'clock his chauffeur drives him to his
office. He has business meetings every morning. Every

afternoon he looks at the sales reports. Sales go up every

year because business is good.
In the evenings he likes to entertain important
business clients. They often go to his favourite night club,
Madame JoJo's. They have dinner, drink champagne and
watch a cabaret.
At two o'clock in the morning his chauffeur drives
him home. He goes to bed half an hour later, and dreams
about sales figures. James is always exhausted. The next
day is exactly the same. Would you want a job like his?

DINNER DISASTER
Mr. and Mrs. Smith both loved cooking. Mr. Smith
also wanted a better job in his company. They decided it
was time for a dinner party. Mr. Smith phoned his new
boss Mr. Plummer and invited him and his wife to dinner
on Friday night.
On Friday afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. Smith spent a
long time cooking a delicious dinner. They prepared fresh
salmon, filled with prawns and chilli. They laid the table
with silver candles and bottles of wine.
Then, they got ready. Mrs. Smith put on a black
evening dress and Mr. Smith wore his best suit.
Everything was perfect.
The Plummers arrived on time at eight o'clock.
"Let's have a drink!" said Mr. Smith. They all went into
the dining room. Then they saw the table and they were

horrified. The main plate was empty. The salmon had

gone!
Mrs. Smith burst into tears. "Don't worry, love!
We can still have fish!" and Mr. Smith rushed out of the
house.
He ran to the Fish and Chip shop down
the road and bought four portions of fish and
chips. The great British takeaway! And they
all had a lovely evening. So did their pet cat.

A SPANISH RESTAURANT
Last month Monica and Larry were on vacation in California. Everything was
just fantastic. The weather was beautiful and the ocean was very warm. They stayed
at an excellent hotel. There was a swimming pool and a private beach.
Monica and Larry went out for dinner every
night. They especially liked Casa Pedro – a small
Spanish restaurant across the street. It was one of
the best places to eat in town – very popular with
tourists and always crowded. They liked its
atmosphere – friendly and relaxed. The service was
very good, the chef was great and the waiters were
really helpful. They were always happy to explain the different dishes of spicy
Spanish cuisine and recommend the wine.
The food was always fresh and tasty. Monica and
Larry absolutely loved it! The choice of dishes and drinks
was fantastic. And it was fairly cheap, only about $20 per
person with wine. They usually ordered a salad of
lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots and onions as a
starter. Larry also liked pizza
topped with eggplant, tomato, garlic,
basil and cheese. Every time they went
there they tried something new. They
chose a lot of different small dishes
called tapas and shared them.
On the last day of their visit
Monica and Larry wanted to have pizza, but as they were
looking at the menu, Walter, the owner, came out with a
huge live lobster. They changed their minds and decided to
have the lobster with baked potatoes stuffed with cheese and
ham for the main course. The lobster was simply boiled, but it was really delicious.
And they had cakes for dessert and drank green tea. They were both in heaven.
What a perfect vacation!

ALICE ASHTON’S TRAVEL WEBLOG

During my 35 years as a travel writer, I have visited more countries than I can
count. I have backpacked through Asia, I have cycled through Europe, I have
driven across Africa, but I have never explored my own home, Australia. So the
time has come to put this right. Over the next ten days I am planning to explore
Australia with my two grandchildren. They, unlike me, want to get to know their own
country before they start exploring the rest of the world. Here is a diary of our travels
and adventures.

DAY 1. We have done a walking tour of Adelaide, the capital city of South
Australia and a big seaport. We have seen a lot of historical buildings and have
admired their colonial architecture.
DAY 2. We have taken a boat trip around Discovery Bay.
DAY 3. We have explored numerous caves and grottos near Cape York.
DAY 4. We have rafted on the Broken River. It has been very exciting.
DAY 5. We have visited a thermal reserve and have seen a few spectacular
geysers.
DAY 6. We have hiked through a canyon and have seen a number of
waterfalls.
DAY 7. We have been guests at the campfire of an Aboriginal community. We
75
have learned a lot of interesting things about their lifestyle and culture.
DAY 8. We have seen a mob of kangaroos. They are incredibly cute.
DAY 9. In the last 8 days, we have seen and done some amazing things. But
nothing compares to the famous Uluru – the largest rock monolith in the world. I
have heard about the wonderful changes in the color of the Rock, but until you see it
yourself, it's impossible to imagine.
DAY 10. We have just crossed the desert to the modern town of Alice Springs.
We are going to miss all the friends we have made and all the places we have
visited.

THAILAND - LAND OF SMILES

“Addictive!” This is how most visitors
describe Thailand. After your first visit, you just
have to go back again. Today we are speaking with
Margaret, a writer.
“I come from the UK but I am living in Thailand at
the moment. My boyfriend and I only came here for
a holiday but we liked it so much that we stayed. I
think Thailand is a perfect place to live – it‟s cheap,
hot, and inspiring.
I‟ve written two novels since we arrived.
Eric is happy here too. He‟s already done a scuba
diving course and a cookery course. He has recently
started his own business – a small restaurant on the
beach. But he isn‟t working there right now because
he has gone trekking in the jungle.
People often ask me what I like about living
in Thailand. Well, I like the weather, the food, the
relaxed lifestyle. Besides, Thailand is close to other
interesting places. We‟ve been to Vietnam, Laos,
Cambodia, Bali and Malaysia. We have walked
along white sandy beaches and we have done
snorkeling. We have seen a lot of exotic fish. We
have also visited a great number of Buddhist
temples. I can‟t imagine my life without Thailand.

LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD

Little Red Riding Hood lived with her
parents in a little house near the forest. One day
Little Red Riding Hood decided to visit her
grandmother. Little Red Riding Hood baked some
cookies and packed them in her basket. Then she
walked through the forest to her grandmother‟s
house.
Suddenly a big bad wolf jumped out of the
bushes. Little Red Riding Hood didn’t stop
because she did not like the wolf and did not want to talk to him. The wolf followed
her. He asked her, “Little girl, where are you going?” “I‟m going to visit my sick
grandmother,” she answered, “and I‟m taking her some cookies.” The wolf was
happy. He liked cookies and little girls. Finally, Little Red Riding Hood arrived at
her grandmother‟s house. She noticed that the door was open. She entered the house
and walked into the bedroom. Her grandmother was not there. But the wolf was.
Little Red Riding Hood did not expect to see him. She reached into her basket, took
