INTRODUCTION

• Identify the undercarriage The D8T Track-Type Tractor is equipped with the Heavy Duty Undercarriage. The
components. SystemOne™ undercarriage is also available as an option.

The undercarriage uses the following components:

• Track links and track pins with rotating bushings (1)
• Track shoes (2)
• Sprocket segments (3)
• Track idlers (4)
• Track rollers (5)
• Track guides (6)
• Carrier roller mounting (7)
NOTE: An optional carrier roller is available if required, but is not shown in
the above illustration.

ROLLER FRAME

• Identify the roller frame assembly Pictured at the upper left is the track roller frame assembly (1).
components.
When operating in a FORWARD direction, the track (2) is constantly being pulled
around the rear idler (3) by the rotation of the drive sprocket (not shown). As
machine loads change, the track will become tighter or looser due to the pulling
action on the track by the rear sprocket and the resistance to forward movement
caused by blade loading. The front idler (4) and yolk assembly (5) are allowed to
move lengthwise within the roller frame assembly to permit the track to absorb the
loading effects without stretching or breaking the track.

The front yolk assembly is guided inside the roller frame by a tube (6) that is
attached to the yolk. A pair of guides (7) position and support the tube as it moves
to prevent the yolk assembly from binding in the roller frame due to misalignment.

The amount of slack in the track when the machine is stationary is adjustable by
adding pressurized grease to the hydraulic slack adjuster (8). As grease is pumped
into the slack adjuster through the grease fitting (9), the slack adjuster will force the
yolk out of the forward end of the roller frame. To relieve track tension, the relief
valve (10) must be opened.

When the proper stationary track slack has been set, using the slack adjuster, the
recoil spring (11) will provide the proper tension to the track to maintain the slack
adjustment. The recoil spring will constantly push the yolk forward to maintain
track tension and prevent the track from slipping on the sprocket.

10
TRACK ADJUSTMENT VALVE AND RELIEF VALVE

• Identify the track adjustment Grease is applied to the hydraulic slack adjuster through the track adjustment
valve and relief valve. valve (1). Adding grease will lengthen the roller frame and tighten the track.
Multipurpose grease (MPGM) should be pumped into the slack adjuster to adjust
the track.

To loosen the track, the technician must loosen the relief valve (2) and allow some
of the grease from the slack adjuster to escape into the roller frame.

Refer to SEBU9087 for additional track measurement and adjustment

specifications.

NOTE: The left roller frame is shown here.

FRONT AND REAR FRAME ASSEMBLIES

• Identify the front and rear frame The distance between the front frame assembly (1) and the rear frame
assemblies. assembly (2) must be checked before attempting to adjust the track. This distance
can be seen as the unpainted surface in the above illustration. If the distance
between the frames is greater than approximately 150 mm (5.9 in) the technician
should not attempt to tighten the track. Damage to the components of the roller
frame could result if the machine is operated with the front frame extended beyond
the specification.

Refer to SEBU9087 for additional track measurement and adjustment

specifications.

NOTE: The left roller frame is shown here.
