discuss the machine updates, major design features, component locations, and
machine systems operation.

Significant updates have been made to the L Series machines from the H Series,
including the engines, monitoring system, power train (950L/962L), implement
system, and the brake/fan system.

The machine serial numbers are:

• 950L: LXX (Suzhou), TNS (Piracicaba)
• 962L: SXS (Suzhou), MTN (Piracicaba)
• 966L: FSL (Suzhou), FRS (Piracicaba)
• 972L: YJW (Suzhou), RFB (Piracicaba)

• Explain the similarities and The operator’s station is new and utilizes the proven K and M Series design, which

and the L Series machines.
The monitoring system is equipped with a new front dash panel, now referred to
as the indication display, and a new graphical display, which is a touch screen.
The graphical display is now used to display and navigate the monitoring system
menus.

The C7.1 (950L and 962L), C9.3 (966L and 972L), and C13 (980L) ACERT™
engines replace the previous engines on the H Series machines and have been
designed to meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier 2 or 3 and
European (EU) Stage II or III emission standards, depending on region.

The 950L and 962L are equipped with a new countershaft transmission, and
the 966L-980L retain the planetary transmission. All transmissions are equipped
with an electronic Main Relief Valve (e-MRV) and a lockup clutch in the torque
converter, which is standard. The 950L-972L can be equipped with a standard
differential (non-locking) or an optional automatic locking differential similar to the
938H. The 980L is equipped with an oil-to-air transmission cooler.

SERV2094 - 05/16 -10- Introduction

The 980L has been updated with the Priority Proportional, Pressure Compensated
(PPPC) implement hydraulic system, similar to the 950H-972H machines. The
implement pumps have been updated and the implement control valve has been
redesigned on all L Series machines.

The L Series machines are equipped with a Hand Metering Unit (HMU) steering
system the same as the H Series machines. The Command Control Steering (CCS)
system is not available.

The brake system on the 950L-972L is similar to the H series machines, but the
parking brake is now electronically controlled by the Power Train ECM. The brake
system on the 980L has been updated with a variable displacement piston pump,
which provides oil flow to a brake/fan combination valve and the parking brake is
now electronically controlled by the Power Train ECM.

Additional updates include a new hood enclosure, and the optional Ride Control
System has been improved with a new valve design.
