Короткий звук [e] похож на русский звук [э] в слове эхо.

Exercise 2. Read the words.

Exercise 3. Compare open [i:] and closed [e] sounds.

be – bed me - met he - hen

eve – event gene – gentle Pete – pet

Сочетание букв sh [ʃ], ch [tʃ] дает звуки похожие на русские [ш] и

[ч] соответственно. Однако в словах с греческими корнями
сочетание ch дает звук [k]. В словах, пришедших в английский из
французского, сочетание ch читается, как [ʃ].
