The article deals with eating behavior as a complex multi-level object of study. It was de-
fined the role of eating behavior in the homeostasis mechanisms. A clinical typology of eating
disorders and their description are presented, based on the main statistical classifiers of diseases –
the International Classifications of Diseases of the 10th and 11th revisions (ICD-10 and ICD-11)
and the fifth edition of the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Mental
Disorders (DSM-V APA). In the article there is a comparative table based on the current versions
of these disease classifiers.
The main problems in the field of psychological diagnosis of eating disorders are described.
Special attention was paid to the issue of systematization of methods for the diagnosis of eating
disorders, as well as the problem of differential psychological assessment of eating behavior in
normal and pathological conditions. The article presents the analysis of domestic empirical stu-
dies in the field of eating behavior. The state of psychological assessment tools for studying the
problem is described in full.
Keywords: eating behavior, eating disorders, DEBQ, psychological assessment, maintain-
ing homeostasis.
The work was supported by the research grant for the implementation of the basic part
of the government contract according to the project No. 19.8259.2017/БЧ.
