RUSSIAN
1. "Стиляги"

ENGLISH
1. "Hipsters"
2. Well, finally a real musical came to the Russian film industry—funny, honest, fiery...We
are talking about the picture of Valeri Todorovski, "Hipsters."
3. The movie is incredibly colorful and even enchanting. It shows the life of the 50s when
the Soviet authorities made everyone equal and depersonalized all citizens of the country
—a working man had no right to stand out so people lived as one gray mass. Despite the
apparent hopelessness the "twin-people" brainwashed by Soviet propaganda believed
in the righteousness of such a lifestyle.
4. But nearby in the same city there is a completely different reality. It is inhabited by hipsters
—bright and bold but most importantly, different, young people. They are tired of living in
a society where all are alike. They call themselves "Hipsters," slangily call each other
"dudes" and "gals," and contemptuously call the party clones "rednecks." They walk
through the Moscow "Broadway," the Gorky Street, clandestinely buying foreign clothes,
copying the "bourgeois" music down to the x-ray sheets. Dressed in bright clothes and
listening to the forbidden in the USSR jazz and rock-n-roll, they express themselves as
individuals. They are not better or worse, they just want to live differently.

rollicking form—crazy dances, music, and "forbidden" love.
7. "Hipsters" is the first and very successful Russian musical, which is very easy to watch
leaving the feeling of a holiday. Combining great choreography, wonderful soundtrack,
and the social and ideological problems, the movie had a successful premier in many
countries around the world and has won many awards.
